Front wipers only work on Max...

Featured Replies

Hi, i've a mk3 fabia and the front wipers only work on the max settings, any ideas? Fuses are ok (number 8 in engine compartment). The wipers don't work when using the washers either, nor can they go into the service position. Anyone heard of this before?

As nobody else has bitten, i'm no expert but I've seen people on here mention various problems with the relays/switches in the stalks on these requiring a replacement. I can't remember the specifics/symptoms but it sounds very credible this is a similar issue 🙁

Hum, yes there have been more than a few people with Polo/Fabia/Ibiza of this "type" having wiper issues that tended to need the stalk control assembly replaced. Complaints seem to come in "fits and starts"  I think that there is someone with a Polo having either "can't switch on" or "randomly can't keep off" front wipers, not good.

Edit:- trouble is, as usual, diagnosing at a distance is not too accurate, the slow/normal speed wiring will also be the one used for the wash/wipe - so maybe stalk or maybe wiring or maybe wiper motor assembly.

If you are able to dig deeper yourself, you might find out what is wrong.

I had a problem with the wipers on our Fabia; they wouldn't switch off with the ignition on, regardless of stalk position.  As indicated above, the indicator stalk in this generation of  Fabia/Polo/Ibiza has been known to be temperamental.  I can't recall the exact fault/code I seen on OBDEleven but it did throw a fault so perhaps that may be a good place to start.  The car is still in warranty so the dealer quickly investigated, found the aforementioned fault code and replaced the stalk, under warranty.  No issues since.

EDIT: It's apparently a well known issue that the wiper stalks can be problematic, according to my local dealer.

I assume the car is now out of warranty as you're wanting to fix it yourself?
