Auto wipers

Featured Replies

My wipers are on a go slow in the auto setting. They do seem to sense that it's raining but they only seem to wipe intermittently, almost as if it's on the lowest setting even though it's set to high.

So, is there any way of checking whether it's the switch or the sensor on the screen?

Two months out of guarantee of course!

I've always found them a bit hit and miss - torrential rain = occasional wipe, passing cloud that might rain in the next ten minutes = frantic wiping. Sometimes automatic isn't always best :)

I think you're right. I poured some water over the sensor and they went full speed. It driving in the rain and intermittent despite it being quite heavy rain.

My Ford Fiesta gets it right about 60% of the time.   A Vauxhall Astra hire car I had, got it right about 40% of the time.

In both cases the sensitivity control was used.

Yeah the auto wipers on my Superb are OK, but as others have said, a bit hit and miss and I have to keep playing with the sensitivity settings. The Hyundai i40 I had before was even worse, which would always do a single sweep every time the engine was started, whether it was raining or not - a sure fire way to destroy the blades and scratch the windscreen. The only car I had with good auto wipers was a 2007 Honda Civic, which were completely on point.

I've got auto wipers, but I've switched them off. It's so easy to just give the wand a flick down when I need a quick wipe, and that way I'm not surprised.
