63.71 litres in my Octavia tank - A record?

Featured Replies

I'm not proud and am slightly ashamed to admit it but,

I just got 63.71 litres of fuel into the 4x4's tank ...and I didn't spill any either ! Do I have a Paris-Dakar spec fuel tank or something?

Also, this means that I had emptied the same amount of BP Ultimate from the tank which equates to my WORST ever MPG by far of 22.2mpg. 100% short trips. So what do I reckon after one full tank ? Well I've put Tesco back in as the BP stuff is very expensive and 'gained' no economy !

Rob

You would probably find you would get better running/economy from using big brand fuel to supermarket fuel.. the last 2 petrol cars ive owned agreed more with BP/Shell/ESSO UL to tescos/asda stuff

That mpg was on the most expensive super unleaded you can buy ! - its 3ppl more than even Optimax (which I vowed never, ever to use again) around here.

No - back to unleaded for me or I'll have the Jabba chip removed ;)

Rob, sound like a case of back to unleaded AND have the Jabba chip removed! eek.gif

Its a strange coincidence that my first tank of Ultimate is also my worst MPG in 13,000miles (32,000m now) !

I don't recall driving it any differently to normal, but unusually for me it was ALL short trips (4 miles) to work and back or out locally, with no long runs.

I do keep a MPG record ( a hangover from company car days !) and the previous worst was 24.22 which was quote 'hard driven'

I'll never know if it was a fluke with the BP as I did a sum which suggests its

That certainly seems "touring" fuel tank range to me!

I can get nearly 55 litres of Diesel ino my tank although the handbook says its only 45!

This takes a quite a while to do and involves doing the vent trick by releasing the vacuum valve inside the fuel filler neck.

This way I can get around 550miles of normal driving from one tankful.

Funny you should say that. Last time I filled up, I reset my trip counter and at the halfway stage, I reckon I'm on target for getting 200 miles out of a full tank before the buzzer sounds again. I'm used to getting far more out of Optimax, although the engine is running a lot better on Ultimate.

Must admit I have gone back to Tesco unleaded , because I do an awful lot of short trips , and have read so much about "degrading" Optimax ...............and the main reason , I can't tell the difference ! ................Perhaps other people who do long journeys can notice a difference , but I reckon petrol is a bit like wine .............an awful lot of garbage is spoken by people who know nothing .

BTW I like Blossom Hill red !................but don't put in your tank !

i no longer use optimax as i found less of a benefit in the 1.6 octy compared to the furbie, i dont use SUL as i have never found an improvement so just stick with a tank of sainsbury best once a fortnight

I got my miles to go til' running out of diesel down to "5!" this week. -

It beeped at me when I got home on Weds, and that normally means I have 45 miles grace, with a 35 mile journey in the morning... Oooh, cutting it fine! - I only shoved

I'm once bitten forever shy with regards to Optimax I'm afraid !

Its very subjective from only one full tank (but a lot of short trips), but the BP Ultimate felt both torquier at low revs and quieter.

I've gone back to normal unleaded again and it seems no different on the top end power side of things. Think I'll mix and match now and again !

I'm hanging on for the new Shell diesel. I always fill up at the same (rather cheap) garage, but that's 'dahn sarf', where the new Shell stuff hasn't made an appearance yet. Plus, it will be the same price (allegedly) as the normal diesel it is replacing ( :cheapskate: ).
