Changing front hub/bearing

Featured Replies

Anyone got a guide on changing the front hub/bearing of a vrs?

I just got new tyres and got told that the last person to change the wheels cross threaded two bolts, damaging the female thread on the hub.

They managed to get the wheels on safely with new bolts and torque them all up but said the next time the wheel comes off it'll likely strip more thread out.

They said they re-tapped it but I'm not sure they did tbh.

It was the supplying garage that fitted the wheels and I've got a week's warranty left so I'm booking it in as ultimately they (or rather Kwik fit that they used) buggered it up.

However, in case I have issues, anyone got a guide?

Apparently the hub is part of the bearing, so you replace the bearing.

Is it just a unbolt and replace job or what?  Exploded diagram would be awesome if such a thing exists for these...

Cheers

Alex

im sure there will be a guide on Erwin, you can sign up and pay for an hours access and print out what you require. from memory there is a step by step guide on there, its the full hub that's replaced including the bearing,  https://erwin.skoda-auto.cz/erwin/showHome.do

Sorry for the double post I couldn't find the edit button on mobile. Here is a video showing the hub replacement on a golf, the Octavia will be the same. Only thing missing is the torque values.

@allan1888 You wouldn't find an edit button because after 36 hours it would have timed out anyway.

Ahh no worries, 👍👍

Why not just get them Helicoiled ?
