Towing with a Fabia TDI

Featured Replies

Hi,

Does anyone use their Fabia to tow??

I've recently purchased an estate, 1.4 TDI 75bhp, and am considering using it to tow a small pop-up caravan (i.e. Conway style trailer tents etc).

Does anyone else do this? Just wondering what the Fabia is like as a towing vehicle (a little after the event I know, but it's more as a possible use than definate use).

Cheers,

Hewesy

My dad uses a PD100 Tdi Estate and there was a recent post where I replied to a similar question and gave details on how I fitted the tow bar. Try the search.

Thanks, will have a look for it.

I've done a search - not much on the 1.4 TDI towing which is what I was after.

Your notes on fitting the towbar were useful though mate, will be coming back to those if we do decide to get a trailer 'van.

Cheers,

Hewesy

I would imagine it would ok as long it wasn't anything too heavy. Reason my dad got a 1.9 PD100 was that he had a ****roen C3 1.4 diesel that was too light to tow his van.

Cheers for the reply.

Yeah we're only looking at pop-up tents, so should be plenty light enough (and hopefully not cause to much drag behind the car).

How big/heavy is your Dad's 'van?

Now ya got me - Tin Tents aren't really my thing. I suppose it's about the size of a car but obviously taller.

Hi,

I've a 1.4TDI and regularly tow a trailer with building materials. No problem with 600kg of sand - pulling and braking are good. The biggest problem (worse when it was new) is that on steep, slippery wet muddy grass slopes (I live in an awful place for access) and with a full trailer load, the engine does not like to give any very low speed power; then, of course, if you push hard on the loud pedal, the turbo kicks in and the wheels spin. Common problem with all turbos. All in all it tows well and I feel confident on all road and speeds.

Enjoy
