2016 Citigo cam belt replacement

Featured Replies

Eldest had read about extending cam belt replacement so I emailed SUK and received their response today

I took some time to look into your enquiry and I can confirm the following information below with you regarding your concerns for your Cam belt.

Cambelts are considered as a ‘wear-and tear’ component and not covered by warranty outside of the three year/60,000 mile warranty. For this reason there is no “Lifetime Guarantee.” However, the ever improving reliability and extended change intervals of Cambelts means that Škoda is removing the recommendation to replace the Cambelt every five years. This will be replaced by time/distance intervals (where applicable). As of 1 July, the cambelt guidance has been updated to remove the five-year interval on all cars across the Volkswagen Group. The cambelt replacement will now be based on mileage as per maintenance schedules.

We would always recommend that our customer’s visit any one of our Škoda Approved Retailers who have trained technicians that are regularly updated on any changes that apply to vehicles manufactured within the Volkswagen Group.

I hope that the above information proves useful. Should you require any assistance further, please do not hesitate to reach out to us on the details below.

  • I cannot believe that in the real world there is a cam belt in a recent car that needs replacing within, let's say, 60k miles on the average used car. No doubt by saying this there will endless anecdo

  • Go on take the chance, the cambelt is a rubber/fibre construction so the rubber will and does harden over time (as do tyres) that is why they are given time/mile intervals, Skoda errs in the side of c

And what is that, or are they still persisting in being evasive and vague.... ?

Afternoon,

Just a quick question, could anyone suggest or recommend a garage around the Leeds area who could change the cambelt on my daughters 68 plate Citigo. As she's been quoted well in excess of £500 (plus VAT) by a couple of garages to renew the belt, along with another £280 plus for a full service, before adding in the cost of an MOT.

Many thanks for any suggestions

Have a read of the various Citigo camblet threads on here; there is no mileage requirement, just a 15 year replacement interval. For years Skoda UK have been ignoring this to make money for servicing departments.

15 years? Do you have an official document?

I was of the view that there was a mileage recommendation (160K was it?) but no time limit.

Nevertheless I'd change after 15 years!

Mentioned a number of times and the latest here:

yes I see it says 240K km, but I cannot see where it says "15 years"!

It is pick a number any number now with VW Group & their lastest info for UK owners.

They could not care with cars out of manufacturers warranty.

For the first 2009 vehicles it will be 2024 before the 15 years is up.

2 posts above the screen grabs in the response from Skoda UK's Customer Service:

"I'd like to inform you that I've been in contact with our internal Technical Team regarding the timing belt service interval for your 2015 Skoda Citigo SE with the 1.0 L petrol engine. According to their response, the recommended timing belt replacement interval for this specific model is after 15 years, with no specific mileage stipulation."

But even that is wrong! There is a specific 240k km mileage specification.
They make it up as they go along!
