Taxing a car with old blue V5 log book

Featured Replies

Any thoughts... so my SORN car needs taxing. Local post office can’t do it so I didn’t go to the bigger one a few miles away.

came home to do it online, and it doesn’t work. Found a logbook, old blue style one. Oddly it has an 11 digit reference number, and from what I can see online the blue ones are meant to be 12 digits. Phone doesn’t work either.

id be sure that I updated this blue logbook to a new one, and that I sent off for change of address. Long story but new logbook cannot be either round (due to house move) or it’s got lost in the post. (I work away from home so the V5 is easily forgotten about). However reading online if I’d got a new red log book the blue one should have been sent back to DVLA

any suggestions? Clearly I wish I’d gone to the bigger post office today and will be doing so first thing tomorrow. Are they likely to be able to process it?

I'd be thinking do a v62, hand that and the logbook over and tax it at the counter on that basis. If they don't want to play, cover all the bases. Send a v62, v10, your old logbook and a cheque for the tax to DVLA Swansea and let them sort it all out if they want paying.

Thanks very much. I’d ideally like to get the car taxed over Xmas hols otherwise I (Presume) I will have to wait for a new log book to arrive, then spend a fortune on train fares getting home to pick the car up
