L & K - Alarm or Not?

Featured Replies

Just got our lovely new Sahara Beige L&K Estate 2.0 DSG with most of the bells and whistles (the lad at the local garage implied that they'd never sold one so specced up!).

Question: Does the L&K have an alarm fitted and activated on purchase? It seems to have the lttle sensor on the door pillar shown in the handbook (p.55), though it doesn't look like the one shown, which seems to have an on-off indicator.

We actually don't want a working alarm, even if it's an insurance requirement to have one fitted - far too many in our street go off in the night for us to add another one. So, if an alarm's fitted, is it possible to disable it permanently without ripping out wires?

And another thing - if Skoda are going to produce a handbook for UK vehicles, why can't they show an RHD model and reverse all the L/R references?

Read the manual. Most VAG cars have a switch to disable the alram movement sensors for when you leave a dog locked in the car (which, of course you should only do for short periods with the windows open).

Or lock it with rear window open, then wave your arm inside!

The alarm on my old L&K never went off unless I did it on purpose.

Phil

There is a button on the door pillar, press this before exiting the car and this dectivates internal sensors for alarm. See manual page 54/55.

I have indeed RTFM. It tells you how to switch off the alarm temporarily, but says it comes back on again the next time you lock/unlock the car.

And it also shows the alarm starred in the manual as optional equipment your car may or not have. So I ask again: do I have a live alarm or not?

only one way to find out, sit in the car and lock it using the key fob after about 30 secs when the alarm should have set wave your arms about....I would have expected it to have an alarm to be honest

and the elegance has an alarm as standard

My Elegance has the same mention in the manual and has an alarm, so can only presume the higher spec L&K does too.

The L+K does indeed have an alarm.

And you think the owners manual is bad, all our workshop manuals and most of the wiring diagrams are all LHD aswell...lol

Some manuals show 2 switches on the B Pillar. One is to disable internal motion sensing (as described above). The other is to de-activate the tilt switch so that the car can be secured but can still be towed away if necessary without the alarm going off. For some reason UK models only have the 1 switch to de-activate motion sensing.

My Irish spec one came with 2, the motion and Tilt.

According to the main brochure, the alarm becomes standard at Ambiente level. The Classic only has immobiliser.

Only had my alarm play up for one day....went off 8 times until we discovered a butterfly in the car :o

Many thanks all - good that it's not prone to going off of its own accord!
