MK3 vrs 245 catless downpipe

Featured Replies

Hi everyone I have a 68 245 and attempted today to install a catless downpipe. Couldn't quite squeeze the cat out. It does have a ppf and I have the software for O2 and ppf delete. Just wondering if anyone has any tips? Thanks 👍

My first tip would be to ditch the decat pipe and opt for a 200 cel sportcat. That way you stay legal and wont have any insurance issues. Most insurance companies dont like decats. Plus did you purchase your car on finance because if you did you have to ask them if you can modify the car as they are the legal owner of the car. There was a case recently where a man modified his BMW and it was quite public. When someone from BMW found out they hit him with a big bill as it voided any warranty.

My second tip would be get a garage to do it for you. They can get to it a bit easier on a ramp and may have a bit more riggle room in the air.

In fairness if it was my car I would leave it standard during the warranty period. You know how funny manufacturers get about warranty claims when they see a car modified and the software tampred with. Out of warranty no issues.

Were you doing it on ramps or a lift? I think it has to twist as it comes out, it's a right bugger to get out and you need a bit of space under the car to actually drop it and twist it clockwise as it comes out, at least that was the case with mine although it doesn't have a PPF, just two cats. Re the comment about warranty, just understand that the only warranty items affected by the mods will be things related to the downpipe, like emissions stuff such as sensors although the turbo might be affected too. As everyone on this forum should know, you can modify your car however you like but you pay to play.

Thanks guys yes it's financed and it's got about 1.5 years of warranty left. When taking a car for a service would they flag it as modified? Or are they only actively looking when a issue occurs? Just wanted a bit of sound from the car as it currently sounds like a Tesla. I picked the downpipe up in a sale so it was a fraction of the cost of a exhaust system and you get more gain over the exhaust. Thanks again guys 👍

Just a update so I've phoned the dealership and they said that I can modify the car but the warranty will not cover the modified parts. And if I return the car after the finance I'll have to return the car back to standard.
