Superb v Octavia

Featured Replies

My S Reg Octavia Estate Mk1 (75 Kw) is a bit tatty and the clutch is begining to slip. So my mind is moving towards replacement.

I'm looking at 2016 Mk3 Octavia and Superb Estates as a replacement. For me it is a matter of economy and practicality. I'm not considering a Vrs or anything with additional performance - more mpg and capacity. So the question is which and which models?

Particularly I know nothing about the current 1.6 and 2 liter diesels and which would be better for me. I tend to do some of the servicing myself

The requirements are for a car to impress friends for the wife and one that costs as little to run and can carry a wardrobe/ garden waste to the tip and tow a motorcycle trailer for me. Over to the experts...

p.s. why are the colours so boring?

If you want to impress with quality and space then Superb 2.0TDi.

If economy above all else then Octavia 1.6TDi.

They are very different vehicles. The Superb feels a much more substantial car but it's quite a bit bigger and more expensive.

Thank you, the issue with the 1.6 is that I don't know if it is 'man enough' and the implications of additional emissions equipment DPF, SCR? fitted to it.

Are the 2.0TDi Octavia & Superb on a par in quality terms with each other?

The Superb has the better ride and comfort with the independent rear suspension against standard 2.0tdi Octavia.

The VRS Octavia is a surprisingly capable load lugger and very comfortable with the independent rear suspension.  Superbs are a level above in terms of build from what I have seen.  For towing and general use I would stick to the 2.0.  It will use marginally more fuel than the 1.6 but is a lot more capable and if you end up with a DSG it has the better wet clutch over the dry clutch box on the smaller engines.

Can someone confirm whether the L&K versions of the Octavia have independent rear?  If so then a 150tdi L&K would be the winner for me.

Hi its the power that dictates this. 150hp will be torsion beam in L&K as in any other trim level

@King John my VRS tdi estate tows a motorbike on my trailer, plus track day stuff and you wouldn't know anything was in the back.

Had the car 5 up (all adults) and a days hiking guff and again, doesn't break a sweat.

There are a decent selection of 150 diesels, a decent 16 plate should cost no more than 10k.

Thank you all.

I sat in a Superb and Octavia today and, my goodness, the Superb is in a different league! What worries me is how long the electronic gizmos will last!

I'm thinking about a 16 2.0 Superb with 43,000, tow bar and reversing camera but they want £14,000 for it. Is that too much?

2.0TDi L&K is the worst riding Octavia.  18" wheels and torsion beam suspension. A match made in hell.

look for a 1.4 tsi 150bhp , my 16 plate is coming up to 98k trouble free except for a sensor that went around 40 k, both can be had in the octavia and superb

I have 18s as my summer wheels with no issues. A little firmer than 17 but no less comfy.
