Wipers - Drat & Double Drat...!

Featured Replies

The OEM wipers have started to fail so I thought I'd change 'em.

In the garage I've a couple of spare sets for our Golf, save a few ££ me thinks, just 25mm shorter overall but the same fitting as the Karoq......or so I thought.

Seems Bosch or VW have ever so slightly altered the plastic clip fitting width, now about 1mm less on the Skoda arms than the VW, took me 10 minutes to realise it wasn't just a tight fit..............dratt and double dratt.

Can you just exchange the rubbers?... It was actually very easy on aYeti

I've just had to change my original wiper blades also (roughly two years old). Bought a pair of Bosch Aero Twins from Halfords - £30, or £27 with AA discount QR code. Great fit and easy to change.

Have you used them in anger yet, and how did they perform, please? I ask because I've got a pair waiting to be fitted!

Yes, definitely used them in anger, especially today - performing absolutely brilliant. You don't realise how they naturally deteriorate until you fit new blades. The front nearside had suddenly started to split away along its edge, the offside was still ok, but given their age it was worthwhile to replace both. Certainly the easiest clip-on arrangement I've come across - no messing about with adaptors etc.

The only thing i would say is that the release clip really has to be pushed down quite hard, and then it's a heck of a tug to pull them off the arm. I would advise putting some cloth or similar under the blade arms just in case they drop on to the windscreen - as a friend of mine found out to his cost on a Boxster.

Thanks for the report and reminding me of the need to protect the windscreen. Can you comment on the smoothness of the wipers - the reason that I'm changing mine is not because they are worn, but because they make such a hell of a screeching racket both front and rear?

Both blades are running absolutely silent, as is the rear, which I changed last November as this one was really juddering and making a hell of a racket. I do use Rain X on all the glass, which does work really well, but I have heard reports that it can cause the rubber blades to deteriorate quicker, but to me I think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

I've just replaced my original blades with the Bosch A864S.

A vast improvement, and keeping today's heavy snow off. The originals were leaving a 6" strip along the outer edge of the nearside blade.

Amazon £17.35 for the pair.

OEM wipers are rubbish, I changed mine front and rear within a year to Bosch, dealer said it was the way I was washing the car, my wife's new Citigo purchased in August suffered the same problem, changed front and rear to Bosch. Both cars now have silent and smear free wipers.
