Tailgate not catching, trim not fitting back

Featured Replies

I had been involved in a minor car park bump (reversed into someone who was also reversing out of a bay!)

My bumper and door needed replacing, also the door open alarm and sign wouldn’t go off.

Found a nice (used) replacement set and a young chap who charged me £80 to replace them both.

The end result looked good, I paid the chap and headed home, whilst checking the boot next day the pesky door open alarm came on and wouldn’t clear, after jiggling around with the latch the bloody thing ended up not catching at all, after much trial and error I ended up simply turning the catch ‘male’ side of the latch around.... now catches and no more alarm.

whilst doing this repair I had to remove the ribbed type step trim around the latch, when replacing it I could not get it to click into place, after a bit of looking and thinking I discovered that the small metal tangs need to be taken out of the metal frame and refitted to the plastic.... clicked in no problem.

Probably common sense and obvious to most guys on the forum, but I’m sure I’m not the only rank amateur it has (or will) stymie

love my wee Skoda by the way!

Yes, getting some of these trims back on can be troublesome, obviously the steel springs always need to be transferred back onto the plastic trims, but also some bigger trim pieces need fitting in a certain order, or at least their securing points do otherwise you end up forcing the trim down and bending over some of these securing points which can lead to them snapping off and quite a bit of creative bodging is needed to sort things out!
