First service

Featured Replies

My SEAT Mii is going for it's first service today. It was registered 31/01/2019 and I've covered just under 10k miles.

I shopped around (localish) main dealers and the best price was £175 (@ Stoneacre - they quoted £189, but then told me it would be £175 in person👍). The highest was JCT600 @ £215.

There is a slight noise when turning the wheel lock to lock. This is a quiet ticking / clicking and appears to be emanating from just below the steering wheel. I've also noticed the lower edge of the windscreen appears to be suffering from delamination.

I'll report back when the car's ready.

I have genuinely enjoyed my year with the car. I did consider a Citigo, but managed to secure a five door Mii Design for £7500 OTR. The car was pre-registered, but had 3 miles on delivery. I have no spare wheel, but it has the Beats stero, which sounds great, but occupies the spare wheel well.

MPG has worked out around 50 MPG in mixed use.

Just got the car back and the dealer confirmed the clicking noise is the clock-spring and the windscreen is indeed delaminating (suspected manufacturing fault).

It will need to go back in for both a new windscreen (this is sub-contracted to an external company) and clock-spring fitting.

Other than that the tyres are wearing evenly, although I was a little surprised, given the limited power on tap (59 BHP) and low kerb-weight (934 Kg) to see they are down to 4.5 mm on the front (54% worn) and 6mm on the rear (31% worn). I tend to change them at 3mm, so guessing it will need at least  new front tyres within the next 6 months / 5k miles. I was considering a switch to Michelin Cross Climate+ (these lasted 40k miles on a previous 4WD diesel Yeti) and may well take advantage of the Costco offer for a set of 4.

Average MPG comes out at just under 50 MPG  (see below) and I've been very satisfied with  Mii / Citigo / Up ownership thus far.

I did consider an Up! GTi, but couldn't justify the additional expense for a car, which although undoubtedly good fun to drive, didn't offer that much more enjoyment, when compared with my 59 BHP Mii.

I suspect this car will stay in the family long-term (assuming it proves reliable) and I may well look for an Up! TSi. I recently test drove one and found it a very compelling package.

Finally I was impressed by the service offered by Stoneacre. They provide a shuttle bus to drop customers off in the nearby town centre (Chesterfield) and the staff were knowledgeable and helpful.

Why wouldn't you rotate tyres? From back to front and from front to back. Then later you can buy 4 new tyres at the same time.

For an Oil & Filter change and look see and report @ £175 the help with a lift should be available, the quality drinks and biscuits as well.

£175

This was the lowest price available for a manufacturer / SEAT main dealer first service.

My Suzuki was £136 for the equivalent first service, whereas the VAG specialist for I use from time to time charges £99 (including genuine VAG parts etc).

You pays yer money ................

You do and it is now 2020 and some prices are rising. Some are still where they were for a few years.

You paid less than the New Skoda Fixed Price Oil Service & Inspection price at participating dealers, which is something.

My Suzuki SX4 gets its 1st Service on the 23rd & a MOT from the 2 year Service plan i have with Arnold Clark that came with the used car. I traded in a 16 year old Jimny that i would not sell privately even for spares or repairs,  they did at auction and then another dealer sold it.

AC MOT'd & prepped the SX4 before i got it and Serviced it and they were good.

Much as i slag AC, i am going to one of their better Dealerships with good Techs & Fitters.
