Oil

Featured Replies

Hello

Had my 2008 1.9tdi Octavia services 4000 miles ago and amber oil light came on, a little concerned it has burnt that much oil in such a short time. Any views on this??

Have you checked the oil level to confirm it's actually low and did you check after the service what the level was?

?

When the car was serviced did you check the oil level when you got the car back, checked cold and at operating temp or since to know there was the correct quantity of oil in and it was not low?

If you did and it was then there is an issue maybe.

Top up, do not overfill and see how it does.

Chances are the oil level settled shortly after it was changed and has now just triggered the low oil sensor.

Any obvious leaks? Any oil on the drive?

No I never checked after the service. I supplied the parts and the 5ltrs oil triple QX 5w 30. When my friend did the service he gave me back about the container with about 500ml left.

No oil leaks visible or on the drive or on the belly pan. What oil would you advise is best??

If there's no leaks I would go with this. Mine did the same after I serviced it, it was all filled to level then a couple of months down the line the oil light came on. I topped it up and it was fine until the next service. Probably just the level settling and the new filter soaking a bit up, along with filling the filter housing filling up.

Quantum Longlife III (5W30), which is the same oil a lot of franchised Skoda main dealers use. It is VAG's own brand.

Here is 5 litres delivered from a Skoda dealer for less than £26...

Thank you

Great price, just i would never give Parks of Hamilton my money.  I would cut off my nose to spite my face.

Arnold Clark number 1 stealers & Parks are right behind them.

Popping into Asda or any Supermarket or just a Local Motor Factor for oil to VW 507 will do so that is 5w 30 Full Synthetic III  (Long Life)

It is just Diesel oil for VW engines after all.

I've bought my mats and a rear wiper blade from Parks Skoda in Hamilton with no issues, were cheaper than buying on line .... I've also bought a few odds n ends from their Motor Homes page on eBay with excellent prices and delivery...

i must admit i use any oil that says it meets or exceeds the requirements of VAG  507.0 and it's usually Tescos.... Bought 2 * 4 lire containers around about May and paid £4.50 for each one .... Sure they cocked up on the price and would've bought more but they'd only two left
