Mk3 facelifted VRs 230/245 wheel fitment issue

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I've read that the facelifted VRs has a 30mm (15mm a side) wider track on the rear?

In which case, if I were to get a set of wheels in 18 x 8j et 42, this would equate to a 15mm wider track as a result.

Would these be ok on a facelifted VRs (using 225 40 18 tyres and H&R springs?)

I think they’d be to far out.. the et 42 would be 9mm wider than the standard wheel so that would mean the wheels on a facelift would be 24mm each side further out than the non facelift.. most folks running 20mm on non facelift.

The calc I’m looking at shows an offset increase of 15.4 mm,that’s 9mm for the et difference plus 6.4 for the extra rim width.

I’m running 7.5 et 35 as my winter wheels,so 16mm more offset and I’ve no problems...BUT with standard suspension,so it’s possible with a lowered set up you could have rubbing issues.

Cheers I'm getting conflicting opinions!

Some bloke has 20mm spacers on the rear with hr springs and says it's close.

Also has 8.5j et45 wheels in a 19 and they're just OK too

Awesome gti tell me that there isn't any track difference between fl and pfl?

When I had my 2017 245 I believe the rear track is 50mm wider than the 230 model. Trust me it doesn't need spacers if you fit 8.5J x 19" alloys with 235/35R19 tyres. They fill the arches nicely and mine was on standard suspension and not lowered.

Mines a facelift 230, 2017

Think the best way is to get a plumb line on it and see what room there is to play with at the mo with my oem
