Crap...I knew I forgot something in the shipping bit, Let me check out airmail prices. I suspect E.U airmail will be around £7, but I'm not 100% sure. I'll update the GB thread.

I'll also come back with translation requests, but I might just stick with really good pictures instead. (a picture says 1000 words.... as they say :o) :D

OK, after checking prices I'm saying its £4 on top of usual price for EU shipping - I'm hoping the weight of the whole kit posted will not be too much - Having to make this choice on my own, so I'm erring on the side of caution) - Its £10 on top for the Rest of the World, as airmail seems quite a lot once outside th EU - A customs form will also need completing, and I hope no import duties are incurred as a result. :)

Jason, good work mate, BUT will it work on a Standard bonnet, as yours has been lightened and the lifter struggles at that weight, how does it work on a unmodified bonnet.

Looking good Jason!

Dont forget people if you want one add your name HERE

How does the bonnet shut?

Skoda recommend to drop the bonnet from approx 300mm. Will the strut allow this?

I hate pressing down on the bonnet to shut it (paranoid of denting it!).

Oh, you can still slam it. You'll notice it hanging in the position above, from there a gentle push down will shut it. However if its just dropped from 300mm it still might not shut 100% and might need a good shove. However, the strut does not in any way impede or slow down the shutting. The weight of the bonnet greatly outweighs the power of the lifter by that point and a good shove will shut it securely. I've found its best to make sure the lever inside the car has returned to the "SHUT" position though as it never closes if its slightly open.

If I need to do a video of it closing, then so be it. :)

I personally dont drop mine, I let it go down and then just push it shut at the edge where the bonnet meets the grill.

Jason you know you want to make the extra video! :D

Yeah, I do want to. Shall do it tonight.

If anyone is doubting the company I'm using, please don't - I can vouch for their engineering works. They specialise in the marine industry, but have all the gear to hand to make these brackets. One by one, they will be produced. I suspect a couple of early ones will be trial fitted to my car to ensure the production is correct, then it will begin. :D

@Jason, please catch on that video also the lifting, I want to see the whole process :). from pulling out the security handle from the grill until the bonnet is lifted up. When you think it's up enough to be self-lifted let it go alone.

Does the video above not show this in full?

But why?

The only time I need to open the boot at the front of the car is when something goes wrong. Why do you need to function to be mechanised?

because it's cool.............safer than the standard bonnet catch?

because it's cool.............

Pretty much sums it up. Its also a convenience / laziness thing too. Much less effort needed in all to use it. And it looks good when you open it up to show people and don't need to ar5e about with the stick before letting them admire the engine bay. :)

OK, after being asked about other free colours in a PM, I've asked the question, and it would be perfectly fine to have them sprayed once in any basic matt colour. Please don't say "african haze orange" as you'll be told to get to f***

But requests for red, dark blue, dark green, grey will be OK. maight not be a colour match for your paintwork so please state your paint colour if you want the metallic finish. Would be nice to have some more red ones, as I've got one order for matt red already.

Thanks. :)

Right - I forgot the video. but if you watch the one above, you can see when the lifter starts to take the weight. Once you start to push it down from there, pretty quick the weight takes over and gravity comes into play as if there were no strut at all - and it can be forcefully shut like normal (either by dropping or pushing at the end)

devonutopia,

Being weakling me, I can see the benefit of it simply because my bonnet is heavy to hold for more than a second or two and it would stop it from dropping on my head whilst I'm fiddling about getting the stick in place. I generally open the bonnet, suss where the stick and position is, then close the bonnet, give my arm a rest, then go for it (if you see what I mean).

My only question is how easy it is to fit? I.e. you said the drill holes are sited for Fabias - does this mean it can be fitted without drilling anything? Can it be fitted whilst the bonnet is perched on the existed stick? Is the VRS bonnet same as my 1.4 Fabia - i.e. fits all models?

Apols if you've answered these already.

From what I can gather you could stick up the bonnet on the existing stick, unbolt the bolt on the car, slide in the bracket and rebolt that side. Following from that you'd have to undo the bit where the existing stick is attached to the bonnet, so you'd have to support it differently (perhaps a friend could help or use a bit of wood (a plank even LOL) to hold it in place).

Then you'd bolt on the other side of the strut.

That's kinda how I see it working based on pics etc shown, but no doubt proper instructions will follow :D

Mr WW pretty much sums it up, NO drilling needed at all. And the strut just pulls out the bonnet end with some "wiggling". Also best to remove the rubber bit too, as its not necessary when the top of the lifter is bolted in there. :)

At tuther end, its undoing 3 bolts (1 to ease job only) - shove in bracket under - holes should line up with existing holes - reinsert bolts and do up tight.

Jase, am I right in thinking you have a light weight modded bonnet though? Will this still work of for us with std heavy bonnets?

  • Author

No - my bonnet is oem - I just removed part of the lining of it when the development of the kit began, and I went a bit far and removed it in its entirety. Its a normal heavy bonnet. :D

So you don't get dirty when you have to lean across the engine bay to put the bonnet stay in its socket. :D

Another reason is to fill up say the washer spray, check the oil. As I do 500+ miles/week that's at least once a week.

No problem using the stick as such - it's deffo a luxury feature though :)

I go in my bonnet very often though. :)

Since focus has changed from ICE in the boot to engine in the front, I'm always polishing my pipe. ;)

Would be nice to have some more red ones, as I've got one order for matt red already.

You've got another one now... ;)
