VRS Intercooler heat displacement

Hi everybody

I`ve noticed that on a number of occasions when the car has been used hard there seems to be a slight power drop. :confused:

I looked at where the intercooler is and I can make a air channel to get cool air where it`s needed but can`t figure an easy route to get the heat out. :eek:

Does anyone have any ideas to get the heat away slightly stuck at the moment any help would be appreciated.

do a search , there was a thread recently , i personally cut slots in the wheel arch liner but others have rivetted/bonded in air vent or bits of audi TT wheel arch liner ,also you could trim the l/h/s of the front vent by the o/s fog lamp to get more air through

Do a search for "pikey mod" and you'll find what you need.

Or better still, if you have a bunch of dosh available, get a FMIC from Allard or Forge. I've got the Forge one and it's excellent :)

Plus points are that it fits well & works well. No more heatsoak for me :)

Minus points are price + it's a modification that's obvious + you may get a little more initial lag

Just a little note, joking aside ;) - the pic showing ColG's FMIC is the prototype one, the production model is slightly different on the driver side of the car.

It's expensive but you'll never have heatsoak again - cutting out vents etc will help a fair bit and it's free (or very cheap if you go for TT vents or similar).

If you have a remap that increases boost a lot you'll get more heatsoak more quickly, and every little extra cooling helps.

Having seen the SMIC it's no surprise it can't quite cope under heavy load. This time of year the difference won't be as big most of the time, during the hotter days of '05 I noticed heatsoak badly on the standard map when giving it some. Looking forward to some hot days now to find out :D

Last year, when I didn't have a remap, I didn't think heatsoak would be a problem (and it only got noticeable twice, on two very hot days).

The graph below shows my intake temperatures - with a standard intercooler - on my 'standard' hill climb, before and after my 2006 remap.

The remap alone is contributing an extra 12.5
