Control System for Exhaust Gases light

Featured Replies

Hi,

Sorry if I am doing this wrong, first time poster.

I recently bought a Skoda Fabia HTP Classic a couple of days ago (06 plate, 50k on the clock) I filled it up at Morrison’s petrol station a couple of minutes from the dealership.

I have used it as my commuter 4 times (15 mile round trip) over the last week or so and last night the Control System for Exhaust Gases light came on. I drove it to work normally this morning and went to lunch in it this afternoon and the light has now gone out. The car didn’t drive any differently with the light on and off.

After reading a few threads on here, some people seem to think this may be caused by low quality fuel?

Has anyone else ever had this issue?

Many thanks

Very doubtful that it's anything to do with the fuel.

You need to scan the engine ECU to see what fault codes are logged.

Private sale or car dealer?

I never use supermarket fuel in cars that are directly connected to my wallet...

Supermarket fuel in the UK is vastly better than the terrible crap these cars are designed to run on in Europe, stop being so precious, it's connected to OCD as well as your wallet Ken.

Don't worry about the light coming on then going off,  the car was probably used as a shopping trolley by the previous owner and needed a decent run to light the cat off.

It was from a Dealer.

Take it back there and ask them to scan it for you and tell you the fault codes.  Won't cost them more than 5 mins of someone's time, so they might do it as a goodwill gesture even if there's no warranty arrangement.

Hi,

Had it scanned and came back with P0172.

The light hasn’t come back on still FYI.

Thanks
