Light switch, should dipped beam light up?

Featured Replies

So I noticed today when my headlights are on dipped beam, the switch doesn't light up like it does on side lights or auto? This a normal thing or is the switch faulty?

To know if you have your dipped beam lights on you look for the Green light symbol on the dash. 😏

Ha just seems a bit odd that on the dial auto illuminates, side lights do, but dipped don't 🤔 not a case of being to actually tell if they're on. I normally just leave them on auto anyway . If it's not meant to light up further when on then fair enough just struck me as odd.

I don't get a Green dipped-beam symbol on my dash, just the switch lights up.

It's something that really annoys me.

I only get the Blue full-beam symbol.

Just checked the manual and your right, is only a dash light for main beam. Just to confirm, are you saying your dipped beam icon on the dial lights up further when selected? All mine light up the same as every button on the dash but only sidelights and auto light up further when selected on the dial. A photo with dipped beam on would be awesome.

Yes, the switch itself glows green, but I don't have the 'auto' option.

It's down by your knee, so you don't notice it if you've left the headlights on in daylight.

Ok, warning my last post had a dash of sarcasm with it, but to sum up if you DON'T have an Auto light position and DLR are off:-

With the Ignition OFF:-

Light switch at side/parking position   - light switch at side/parking symbol lights up - dash does NOT light up -but needles DO.

Light switch at Dipped beam position - light switch light goes OFF - both dash and needle lights are OFF.

No light warning symbols come on in the dash for both positions.

If the lights are on in either position you DO get a lights on warning buzzer come on when you open the drivers door.

You do NOT get a lights on warning on buzzer if you exit the car via the passenger side. 😮 Found this out the hard way.

With the Ignition ON:-

Light switch at side/parking position   - light switch at side/parking symbol lights up - dash and needle lights come ON.

But the intensity of the dash lights vary with the brightness outside the car.

The brighter outside the brighter the dash lights. The needle lights stay on though.

If it is dark outside the dash lights go OFF. This is to suggest to you to turn your headlights on.

With the Ignition ON:-

Light switch at Dipped beam position - light switch light stays ON but at side/parking position - both dash and needle lights are ON.

If the lights are on in either position you do NOT get a lights on warning buzzer come on when you open any door.

No light warning symbols come on in the dash for both positions with the ignition on.

Don't hold your breath.

The car does NOT have a Green light symbol on the dash at all, for side/parking/DLR or Dipped.

This is where a lights on warning symbol on the dash would be useful.

There is a Blue main beam on warning symbol on the dash for when main beam is on.

I haven't tried adjusting the dash light level via the infotainment system to see if this makes any difference.

Thanks for such an in depth reply. My only concern was that the dipped beam symbol on the dial remained the same brightness even when selected. Nothing to do with the instrument cluster at all. Side lights on the other hand illuminate further on the dial on both side lights and dipped beam. You answered that it's normal, so all good.
