Octavia Scout DSG ex ambulance - a good used buy ?

Featured Replies

I wouldn't worry about it being driven hard if it has been properly serviced. Turbo's in particular can benefit from being driven hard as they are variable vane and gives them a chance to open up and burn off carbon deposits by getting nice and hot. My mate dives his 1.9 octy nice and hard (regularly redlines it) but changes oil 2x a year. His turbo is sweet as a nut and engine hardly drinks a drop of oil at 190k miles

Emergency service vehicles are indeed well maintained, however they are also driven very, very hard with little mechanical sympathy.

Turbo, DMF, EGR, DPF, Clutch, Haldex, rear diff, DSG gearbox, Mechatronics, all ticking time-bombs and all close to or in excess of £1,000 to be repaired to a high standard. Why is he selling it?

Personal opinion - I'd say that used to be the case back in the day. I had a couple of ex-Police vehicles and a charity I used to do a bit for had an Ex-London Ambulance (yes, with a V8 in) about 15 years ago. They'd all been really well looked after. These days, the money just isn't there, so stuff gets used to death then sold. The only real exception I've seen is traffic cars, but they can still have a long time in service.

& given The Fix early on so that VW Groups CEO could say to the Commons Transport Committee only 1% of vehicles that had the procedure had been reported as having issues.

Obviously the majority of ones done first were cars back in as Dealers stock, VW Finance owned, Lease / Fleet vehicles etc.

I suspect that the 1.9 d is the best of the lot. Never seem to read much about them going wrong.

^^^ You might well be right, is this a 1.9 d?

?

Have you decided to buy it?

its the 2 litre.  early versions of the 2litre had certain problems but cured long before this was built.  I think.

I havent decided yet, got to have a really good look in daylight.

He will get caught........
