How do I remove passenger seat?

Featured Replies

I'm using the car to camp in occasionally and would like to remove the front passenger seat. Is this straightforward enough? I don't want an air bag going off etc

Removal will be straightforward, however the airbag light will come on once the ignition is turned on, you will then need something like VCDS to turn it off again once it has been reconnected.

Thanks, I have OBD Eleven would that work?

Possibly but I have never used it.

I have removed the seats from a 5 series and a Scenic, neither triggered any dash lights. Roll the dice, you may get lucky!

Nope, the moment you unplug the seat airbag (yellow plug) the light will come on the dash.

If you unplug battery, there is no light on dash am I right? I never got mine when disconnecting the instrument cluster, after disconnecting battery of course. Might work for the seats too? But the seats you need to move to get to the bolts no?

Yes you will only get the warning light if the ignition is turned on with the airbag disconnected.

You can always remove two bolts, move the seat to uncover the other two bolts and THEN disconnect the battery or airbag plug

The passenger seat isn't electric on my car so can move it with the battery disconnected. I've ordered some spline bits as that's what it looks like it's secured with

You may find that the airbag light will come on when you reconnect the battery with the airbag disconnected. This happened on my Seat Ibiza after I disconnected the airbag warning light in the center consul and refitted the battery without the light connected.

Also will the seatbelt pretentioner not throw a fault if it's not connected?

I didn't disconnect the battery and there is an airbag warning light on the dash, I'll have a look at OBD Eleven over the weekend and see if I can switch it off otherwise I'll make sure the seat is back in and light cleared for the MOT
