Number Plate Light Warning

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've just changed my interior and number plate lights to LED but I'm getting a warning about my number plate lights being out (they're not) even though I bought 'error free canbus'

Does anyone know how I can sort this? as my car is going in for it's MOT on Thursday and I don't want this to be a failure.

Thanks in advance

You need to change the lighting configuration adaptation channel(s) in the BCM using VCDS, OBD11 or similar to tell it that you've fitted LED number plate bulbs (and maybe turn down the brightness too?).

"Error free CANbus" bulbs is a selling phrase that is often misleading - as you have found.

Refit the normal bulbs?

I've found some cheap LED numberplate replacement bulbs can be way overbright and over illluminate the numberplate to the point they can be dazzling to the car behind, especially at night and in bad weather. As well as popping up an MOT failing warning message some testers may also pick up on the over bight light, especially if any white light shows to the rear.

I love these excessively bright Chinese LED number plate lights, if they haven't already partially failed or are flickering on and off then they're a great warning to give the guy and his Halfords Ripspeed discount card a wide berth 😂
