Sorry, this is probably a stupid questions but here goes anyway.

 

I've been reading with interest the VCDS threads, but how do you actually go about it?

 

I can buy all manner of cables and dongles on Amazon, but I assume I'll need to buy/download a copy of VCDS for my laptop.

 

I'm an IT Consultant for my sins so pretty handy with a PC. 

The software is free to download from Ross-Tech

 

Buy a genuine cable - don't be fooled by cheap eBay/Amazon equivalents. They are nearly always pirated/hacked things that have played hell with people's cars................. (I can speak with a little authority on the subject!)

 

There are several dealers that sell RT cables - www.gendan.co.uk being where I sourced mine.
