the costs still sinking in! its mainly oil, oil filter and cabin filter, i checked the dashcam and the car was in workshop 40 minutes maximum

Most new Karoq's 2 years ago came with 2 free services which ours came with. On variable servicing our car had the first free one last August at 18,700 miles and is currently at 23,100 miles and the 2nd free service will be done before its first M.O.T. on 26/01/2021. My recent used Superb 272 also came with 2 free services.

you make it sound like it was freebie, it was in fact it was bundled in if you purchased car on finance

the main message is that they affordable cars but high costs to maintain

I remember paying £162 for my BMW 325i Coupe after 7,500 miles in 1995.

Pity you never had it done at a Skoda Main Dealership doing the New 2020 Fixed Price Servicing, or a non participating one doing cheaper,

that was a rip off really, even though done at 2 years, it is just the same as a first year & it is still what was an 'Interim Service' was last year then plus a Pollen Filter.

You did not have a Oil & Filter Service and then the 'Extended Scope'.

Got 120Euro quote in Ireland. But I did pay 500euro for 5 services serviceplan in advance.

One of the cheapest cars I had for servicing was also a BMW, but that really is an exception. And that was variable up to yr 2. You're in for a shock at the next service!

I couldn't agree less with what you say - even at £269 ( which is over the odds IMO ), that is exceptionally cheap for 2yr / 18,000 miles servicing.

My challenge to you would be to name all those manufacturers who service their cars cheaper?

I've owned many makes of car and I shop around like crazy to find the best deals. The BMW was the cheapest ( about £130 back in 2006 - an that was me supplying my own oil  bought cheeap from Costco ) but the rest of them - I've never owned any car that's been cheaper to service than Skoda - it's one of the reasons I bought it.

All the VAG brands are more expensive and most manufacturers want a service every 12mth. You could buy a plan but then...

Cheapest way to service a Kia Sportage is £329 3 year plan but over three years your Skoda will still have cost - £269  ( If my memory serves me right, KIA were about £260 each year if you went pay-as-you-go ). Despite Hyundai having the exact same engine, as long as the car has an annual check, you can go 2yr before servicing.

Ford will charge you £159, but that's for the 1st service. Even if it were two minor services, that'd still be £328 for 24mth.

Toyota - even for a small Corolla, they'll charge you £236 for an intermediate and £386 for a full service. I'm not sure how they work their services but when I had a Toyota many moons ago it went yr1 minor service - yr2 minor service  yr3 major. So even taking the least expensive scenario, owning a Toyota would cost £472 over 2yr.

Renault - now this is interesting. You can buy a plan with your Renault Kadjar - 3yr/30k miles for £449. or a 4yr/40k plan for £699.  That's way more expensive than a Karoq variable, even at the price you paid. Why interesting? Interesting because very few people realise that ( unless Renault have changed policy since 2017 ) there is no oil or filter change on a Renault's 1st annual service.

Nissan Cashcow? £209 first year, £289 2nd year ( that does inc a brake fluid change tho ). So over 2yr your Datsun will cost you £498 to service.

I won't list any more because they're all like that. As I say, list those manufacturers where the price is less over 2yr. I'll genuinely be surprised if you can find any - and that includes Dacia.

I had the first variable service carried out on my Octavia 1.4 - that cost approx £175. OK £185...  I bought the pollen filter seperate and fitted myself - it cost £10 rather than the £40 Skoda wanted.

You reminded me of our Kia Picanto 1.1litre bought new in March 2009 (before the 7year warranty was introduced a few months later) which we owned for 4 years. 12 Months later in March 2010 phoned Kia dealer for the oil change service (car had only done 3,500 miles) and was quoted £192 at which point I said something like you must be joking so I took it to a Saab dealer who could service Kia's also who quoted me £129 using genuine Kia parts. Come its second birthday and we received an invitation to visit a new Kia dealership in Leicester so we decided to attend and I spoke to the new Principal on the night and explained how disappointed I was having to go elsewhere for servicing at which he said he would put in writing an offer to service the car for its second and third services for FREE. I thought he was joking but within a week the letter duly arrived and it was booked in at around 7,500 miles (2 years old now). Went to collect the car and was presented with a bill but I simply showed them the letter from their Boss so no charge. A year later the 3rd service was done by them again at no charge, all I paid for was the M.O.T. Before the 4th service was due we traded it in for a used Skoda Superb and got £3,850 for it with 14,500 miles on the clock FSH when we had paid just £6,150 for it in Metallic Silver 4 years earlier.

Did you use their collection and drop off service, or borrow a courtesy car, or grab a quick coffee and a biscuit, logged on to the Wi-Fi? Was the car washed and hoovered?

Firstly you paid too much, it pays to shop around. A lot of Skoda dealers will perform an oil and filter change for less than £200.

Secondly, it isn't just the oil, filter and 40 minutes of labour you're paying for.

£269 for a variable service equates to £135 a year or £11 per month.

Or putting it another way £0.01 per mile.

Putting the servicing cost into perspective, you'll be spending roughly £0.13 per mile on fuel, so an extra penny for servicing hardly sounds excessive.

I can only agree with @Scot5, a lot of people don't realise how good they have it with Skoda. The last service on my basic 2.0 diesel E-Class would have been over £1,000 at the main dealer, I paid £650 at an independent, which still made my eyes water.

I should have bought a Superb.

@silver1011 collection and drop off service, car was washed outside

Unfortunately when the car was sold to us the servicing options were not explained with us, otherwise based on what i learned, i better off financially to take 'Service plan – Under 1 year old cars Available for £342 or 18 monthly payments of £19' or looking back at the price at that think it was £279. I been told i cant get on this plan until i have 2 more variable services.

@Roottootemblowinootsoot i think i agree £269 is expensive especially when you look at breakdown below, essentially they did on my car the £179 + £35 and these are the figures I tried to reasons with them on the phone but they would not barge and glossed up the whole fee as if it was amazing value.

Its not great to be now locked into these high service costs, think the next is with extended scope so i believe it will be under £300
