Reversing Camera Calibration on Skoda Superb Estate MKIII

Featured Replies

So, I have read a number of guides about how to calibrate the camera, but so far none have given me all the information I need.

I know I need the make the calibration board, place it behind the vehicle with the wheels straight, then do additional coding/adaptation on the car.

I have a few questions, which I hope someone can answer with certainty.

1) If I print out the board (probably on A4) and piece it together and attached to a large sheet of cad, that will give me a cheap copy of the Calibration Device (VAS 6350)

2) I place the device on a flat surface, 1.5m (1500mm) behind the rear axel of the car. The calibration device willl have a lower profile which I will adapt in the calculations

3) Can I do the coding of parameter 6C with ODBeleven instead of VCDS or ODIS

4) Does when I code parameter 6C, does the car then auto-calibrate by looking at the Calibration Device or do I have to do anything else?

Right now, my camera when viewed with ODBelelen says this:

When I configure parameter 6C, and input the basic settings, does the software recognise the board and complete the calibration?

Back-Up Camera Calibration
Prerequisites:
Calibration Device (VAS 6350) and Distance Laser (VAS 6350/2) positioned as described in the factory repair manual.

Vehicle must be standing on a firm and even surface.
Make sure no persons are being/working in/on the vehicle while performing the calibration.
Do not move the vehicle and do not operate the vehicle doors while performing the calibration.
Rear Lid must be closed.
Front Wheels straight, Steering Angle Sensor (G85) close to 0.0 °.
Ignition must be ON, Engine must NOT be running, you may connect a charger to keep the system voltage up.
Back-Up Camera active and the MMI shows Back-Up Camera Video Signal.
Make sure you do NOT have light reflections on the Calibration Device (VAS 6350).
For vehicles with Level Control, set the Hight to automatic.

[6C - Back-Up Camera]
[Security Access - 16]
Enter 22351, to enable the adaptation.

500 mm is the basis value of channel 005. Measure the heights between the Calibration Device (VAS 6350) and the surface (e.g. 80 mm), add 500 mm to it and enter the final value as new value (e.g. 500 + 80 = 580 mm).

20000 mm is the basis value of channel 004, 2841 mm is the wheelbase (7L Touareg). Measure the Distance between the Calibration Device (VAS 6350) and the rear axle (e.g. 1500 mm), and subtract it from 20000 mm minus 2841 mm enter the final value as new value (e.g. 20000 - 2841 - 1500 = 15634 mm).

To save your above adaptation save a new value of 1 to channel 001.

[Done, Go Back]

Now double check the calibration status.

Update - Please read this first

So, I have read a number of guides about how to calibrate the camera, but so far none have given me all the information I need.  I have listed these URLs at the bottom of this page. I know I need the make the calibration board, place it behind the vehicle with the wheels straight, then do additional coding/adaptation on the car.

I have a few questions, which I hope someone can answer with certainty.

1) If I print out the board (probably on A4) and piece it together and attached to a large sheet of cad, that will give me a cheap copy of the Calibration Device (VAS 6350). Will this work if the dimensions are correct?

2) I will place the calibration device on a flat surface, 1.5m (1500mm) behind the rear axel of the car. The calibration device willl have a lower profile which I will adapt in the calculations. Is 1.5m correct and without a laser I will have to use two straight edges to get the board centered at 1.5m

3) Can I do the coding of parameter 6C with ODBeleven instead of VCDS or ODIS? Is this by selecting 6C Camera System Rear View, and then selecting Adaptation?  What do I enter here?  Will it be the same as the VCDS instructions below?

4) When I code parameter 6C, does the car then auto-calibrate by looking at the Calibration Device or do I have to do anything else?

5) At what point do I know it has all worked and how long does the car take to calibrate?

Right now, my camera when viewed with ODBelelen says this:

At this point, is the car doing anything and is the camera calibrated?

Now double check the calibration status.

For reference I have attached the screen from ODBeleven for the camera. I have not tried coding with ODBeleven yet.

Any clear guidance would be really appreciated.
