Is the BXE 1.9 pd engine still an issue?

Featured Replies

Going to look at a Skoda octavia 2006 1.9 pd. I’m not sure if it’s a BXE yet but seem to remember they liked to lunch themselves on the crankshaft.

its covered 100k approx so wonder if they cover X miles one can assume they are safe?

Are you referring to BXE engines. That was the one you mention with issues. 2006 may be a BKC if lucky. Those are pretty bullet proof.

Yes sorry just googled it and amended the title. But yes I wonder if a BXE lives past a certain mileage if it will then go onto remain ok.

i remember a friend having one and still had it mapped to 135bhp. He didn’t hang about and it was fine for thousands of miles.

@J.R. has one such, I believe, and his is still going strong.

Mine is a BKC, or at least I think it is, I have a terrible memory, look under my username on this posting and it should be there!

So seemingly mine is bulletproof, some compensation after having been sold and thinking that I had bought a 2.0 140hp 6 speed box car only to find it gutless (105hp) on the drive home, would not go into 6th gear, one look at the gearknob and the reality dawned on me.

Sadly the retired owner genuinely believed it was a 2.0 and most of the garage bills said that as did the spare keyfob.

It was dirt cheap anyway because of a supposed broken engine block which I was sure was not the case, it wasn't, £30 delivered for a second hand alternator/power steering mount bracket to fix it, so I would not have taken the car back anyway, lesson learned, I should have scrutinised the V5.

Mines a BXE, currently on 183k. First 105K was spent with Cambs Police so may not have had the best start in life. Never had an issue with the engine, although I think my injector loom needs replacing.

I’ve seen a couple of BXEs that have had a lot of work and made it to over 200bhp reliably. I think it may have been the earlier versions that had starvation issues. TBH, I’d imagine any BXE that’s on the road today would be ok, the newest ones would be around 11/12 years old now!

I recently sold my '57 BXE engined leon, it had 140k miles on it, had been mapped to 158hp for about 20k miles and was driven hard for most of its life. Still ran flawlessly when I sold it.
