Replacing bolero

Featured Replies

Hi all. I have been thinking to upgrade my original car stereo for android player. I have heard that xtrons makes solid units and I have been looking those from ebay, but there is so many different versions.

My current unit is bolero so do I need unit with the exactly same shape than bolero like this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/For-SKODA-Octavia-Yeti-7-Android-10-1-Car-Stereo-DVD-Player-GPS-SAT-NAV-Radio/333045819519?fits=Car+Make%3ASkoda&hash=item4d8b13e87f:g:L78AAOSwf05d-0DF

Or can I buy unit like this one and just change the fascia?: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Android-10-0-Car-Stereo-Radio-GPS-Sat-Nav-DSP-TPMS-DAB-for-VW-Golf-MK5-MK6-Jetta/333285344263?fits=Car+Make%3ASkoda&hash=item4d995ac407:g:M8AAAOSwzp1eEqSf

I also have skoda soundsystem with original subwoofer under the driver seat. Does that matter?

My current set up look like this:

Thanks for help.

You can go from the bolero type to the Columbus type without any bother, the mounting is the same but the fascia will need replacing. The fascias can be had quite cheaply.

The head units you've linked to are probably towards the lower end of the performance scale, you may find 2gb ram can make things a bit sluggish.

I'd recommend trying to get a unit with 4gb of ram and the rockchip px6 CPU if your budget stretches that far, which should get you a reasonable amount of longevity.

Ok. Thanks! I will look for 4gb model. Just to be sure, that my second linked model fits in columbus fascia?

I have just installed one of these:

Was very easy install and works very well. Very happy with it

What is all required to fit? It's a bolero in ours.

GPS/DAB aerial etc???

Any fitting instructions?

Says it doesn't fit a 2010 Octavia VRS hatchback. Is that correct?

It's a straight swap for the Bolero unit. Mine came with GPS Ariel, you can buy the DAB kit as an extra (I did and it works well)

It came with (very limited) fitting instructions but it's pretty straightforward

What DAB kit is required?

I assume it should fit our 2010 VRS hatchback. Looks like it from the pictures on the page although the compatibility check says it doesn't.

Does it need a new fascia or anything else?

I'd of thought it would, I drive the 2010 vrs estate, don't know that the dash board is different?!?

Nope, existing fascia fits back over it

Thanks for the answers. How is the fm quality? I have heard bad reviews about that. Also, how is the RDS working? Are the radio station names visible or just the frequency?

On the one I have the FM reception is just fine. RDS seems to work no problems, you get station name and program information too.
