Hi, Kindly lend an ear to the problem I'm experiencing, I searched the Forum and did not find any issue as I am experiencing. However tried several other tips which helped to eliminate possible culprits. 

Help greatly appreciated. 

 

Octavia Mk 3 2014 (150bhp) German LHD model. 

 

Had this car for over 2 years and its been running very well. 

However after a change in the timing belt and all pulleys in April 2019,(79K miles). 

A few months later there has been the start of an occasional squeaking (chirping) sound which is on engine rotation and is slower than the idle speed. So its on a larger pulley or wheel somewhere. This has increased in regularity and intensity over the months. 

 

This noise has become more prevalent and has increased at times in volume and intensity. 

Does not hold a pattern whether the car is cold or warm. It makes noise irrespective of these factors. 

 

When the Timing belt was changed  all pulleys and tensioner was changed without the water pump being changed. 

A month ago the Auxiliary belt and tensioner was changed (the older one was still in excellent condition).

The noise was still there. 

Then the water pump was changed and it had a special pump with an electronic controlled sleeve to speed up the warming of the engine, (Original VW part). 

All the work was done by a private Skoda experienced competent garage and mechanic all work done in the UK. 

 

After the change in the water pump the noise stopped .. Great I thought. 

 

Until my return journey back to Italy it started again at Dover, and has returned back to the noise and pattern described above. 

 

I was asked by the mechanic to spray the pulleys driven by the auxiliary belt with WD40, this was done when the engine was off an then again when the engine was idling.

This did not make any difference in the sound being heard. 

 

Checked if the AC is having an effect and it makes no difference if it AC is on or off. 

 

In the video the sound described can be heard. 

 

What is known:

Timing belt, all tensioners/pulleys and water pump changed. 

Auxiliary belt and tensioner changed. 

Noise stopped then after 250 miles it started again. 

Spraying WD40 on the exposed pulleys has not made a difference. 

 

If you bring your ear to the engine the noise is more prominent from the front of the engine bay and not the rear, So its in line with the pulleys at the front of the car.

Either on the Auxiliary side or timing belt side. 

 

Cannot think of anything else and need some help from experienced forum members to help identify and focus on what it can be.

One way clutch on the alternator pulley seized or partially seized.

 

I'm sure when I tested mine I had to try turning the alternator shaft with a spanner on the nut (engine not running of course!) and it should move freely one way and lock in the other direction.

 

spraying WD40 using the straw directly into the centre of the pulley around the centre fixing nut may alleviate things.
