Hello all,

 

I am now the owner of a Fabia 1.9 SDi which was the wife's car for the last decade right up to the week she ran it into the back of a 44 tonne truck. She went out and bought another low mileage version of the same car as a replacement and I 'inherited' the crashed one. As it's essentially worthless but has been very well maintained I decided to not bother with an insurance claim and repair what is mostly plastic damage myself and then use it for work in place of my venerable Toyota Starlet.

 

While IMHO, the Starlet is the better car, it's a petrol and using the Fabia will halve the fuel bill. The remarkable rust resistance of the Fabia is also another selling point in its favour and so I bought another Mk1 Fabia in the same colour to use as a parts donor. The donor car is higher spec than the poverty model Diesel Classic from 2002 so I am considering transplanting some of the goodies from the donor car such as air-con, central locking and electric windows into the Diesel and, if it's of any use to others, documenting the process in the Fabia forum.

 

I know that it's now a very old car and that it's probably all been done before including the window regulator seal problems so if it's old hat and nobody's interested, please say and I'll confine myself to asking the odd question. Now it's just a matter of finding the time to get it done. Fortunately there is no time pressure so if things go wrong with this project, as they inevitably do, it's not a major problem.
