Car Gurus!!

Featured Replies

Has anyone any experience of using Car Gurus when purchasing a vehicle?

I'm looking at changing my car in the next few months, and since it's over 17 years* since I last bought a second hand car I'm  looking at getting the best advice as possible.

Many thanks.

* I kept it 7 years and then bought my current vehicle brand new 10 years ago.

When I first saw the thread title I thought it was someone seeking catalytic converter advice or help with our feline friends. How wrong I was on both fronts.:tongueout:

Based on the site's valuations for our cars I'd say their figures were a bit high, but that's on a limited sample ...

Maybe cross-check values against honestjohn or parkersto get a better feel.  Also autotrader both for values and what's on the market then go back to your "like to buys" on cargurus and be ready to negotiate down.

BTW as shy pointed out the thread title is "cat gurus" which will generate amusement but limited real information - suggest you edit :)

I might have known the Usual Suspects would point out my FFS, 'ahem, deliberate mistake!

That'll teach me to input via Swype after a few Nespressos!

Thanks for the feedback, SM, I'll do that once I boot up the laptop in the forenoon.

Good film the Usual Suspects, wonder which character would play me, good looking, muscular build, charming, funny and rarely wrong.:notme:

Strangest thing is that in the Dealers Ratings ARNOLD CLARK dealerships can get 4 1/2 stars...

Only 3 things matter when buying a used car, condition, condition and condition.

As for Arnold Clark, well if you were selling a car and they gave you a good price with no hassles...

I'm less convinced about ever letting them work on a car you're keeper of.

I traded in and bought a used car from them last year after years of knowledge and experiences of them because it was the car i wanted and i had a car wanted to get shot off.

Beautifully presented. New parts fitted, 2 year service plan included with 2 MOT's.

Then on collection only 1 key with the car.  Told the 2nd one would be sent.  Then the Salesperson that was so nice was unavailable time after time over the next weeks.

That changed about an hour after i put a review on trust pilot.

So he agreed a new key would be ordered.  Great and weeks later it arrived.  Only issue they can not code it and it has to be taken to a competitor of them.

Called and the price was £107 and a 50 mile drive.  So AC agree they will be refunding me when i pay it.

Key still not coded.

1 year on and it went in for the Free Service and MOT.   It failed on a Coil Spring that it failed on 18 months earlier, then passed, and then when MOT'd before i collected it 1 year ago it had passed after new discs and pads.

This time they were advisories.    It was 3 days with them before it was fixed and had a new MOT.

Calling about the car from hand in for service and MOT was unreal with them deadlining me.

They did not half try to get in touch with me after i posted a couple of reviews and filled in their customer service survey.  Just rubbered them. Reviews stand.

Makes me think I'm still not wrong for having avoided Arnold Shark Dealerships for the last 15yr.
