Hub Centric Rings

Featured Replies

Afternoon all,

Currently looking at a new set of alloys for my 2005 Mk1 1.9, have narrowed it down to 2 choices,

Either these Wolfrace alloys - https://www.performancealloys.com/wolfrace-eurosport-milano-titanium-x-et

or these ATS alloys - https://www.rimstyle.com/products/wheels/ats_streetrallye_gmg/xlarge/1.jpg

First things first, seen some mixed things about Wolfrace - anyone had their wheels before, and know if they're any good?

The other thing is, im fully aware that the center bore of the fabia hubs is 57.1mm but both of these have bigger center bores than 57.1mm so, Hub centric rings time! Though, i've seen a lot of stuff online about whether or not you actually need them, use cases for and against etc etc etc and can't actually decipher whether or not I need them..

Have you guys had similar issues? Did you use rings or not? What experience did you have in either case? All answers are greatly appreciated :)

Cheers

Sam

Yes you need spigot ring adaptors for the correct size, ignore anyone that says otherwise.

Wolfrace are a very long established and respected brand that may have been bought out to lend cheap generic wheels some of that brand credibility, ultimately it's hard to see how you can get a wheel wrong to be honest, perhaps they're just not fashionable.

Thanks for the answer mate - have seen a few arguments for and against but everyone I've asked just says buy spigot's - so buy spigots i will!

Honestly still quite new to this world of alloys, so not sure about any brand if Wolfrace have got a good reputation behind them, then no reason not to go for them!

Just remember to also get tapered bolts as most aftermarket alloys use that design and not the radiused versions - most aftermarket alloy wheel suppliers tend to supply you with the correct bolts for your car as well as spigot rings if required.

When my daughter was getting aftermarket alloys for her Leon, I played safe and bought another correct length set of wheel bolts and locking bolts, as well as a spare set of plastic spigot rings - I applied anti seize grease to the alloys and the car's hub centre, aluminium loaded stuff and not copper loaded stuff.

Also being maybe a good father, I bought a spare single set of bolts - same as the original ones, for use with the spare wheel if she ever gets a puncture, and sprayed them yellow so that they only ever get used with the steel original spare. (these were for winter use only so I've stored the original bolts with the original wheels)

I only replaced the supplied new wheel bolts because in my mind they were too long for that car's wheel hubs, wheel suppliers will tend to rationalise the lengths of tapered bolts they stock, so they will always be safe, but maybe not always best fit, when I bought the same make correct locking bolts, I found that that the normal bolts and locking bolts were the same weight - which must be a good thing! (maybe overkill but why not)
