Back door seals leak fix - but then where does the water go?

Featured Replies

Sorry if it is a dumb question!  I've been looking at how to get the back door leak sorted, as the footwells are currently saturated.  Plenty of good advice out there, so I'm going to give it a go.

But it got me to wondering...  Once the sealant has been applied and it is water tight, what happen to the water then?  Where does it go?

Cheers

Out of the drain holes at the bottom, as it is supposed to.

Open a door and look up at the bottom from underneath; you'll see the holes. From there it drains harmlessly outside the car.

Ah, that makes what. I'll take a look tomorrow.

Does it not harm the door and the stuff in the door, having water going through it over the years?

No, the only problem comes when the water doesn't take that 'straight through' route and ends up inside the cabin.

Almost what I'd have said to the word!

And if you don't fancy doing the fix in this weather someone did post a photo of his temporary fix- waterproof tape over the rubber seals on the sill/rubber joint. I did this temporary fix at the end of summer and my rear floors are drying nicely. Hopefully once we get another warm summer, the damp will be gone. And if my round tuit arrives I'll sort it out .

Great, thanks.  That's really helpful.  I'll see if I can find that post.  Cheers.

I did a temporary bodge using gaffer tape and posted a photo..

I note that the photo is dated December 2018, the tape is still there, still doing the job.

Looks like the one I posted about. Strangely enough I had my fronts done under warranty in 2007 and I've had no problems since. I never found out if they sealed them as service manager said if the cards were screwed in they replace the seals ,if riveted they seal . Now if I could only get the Skoda techs round to my windows . Fitted by ( IMHO) botchet & scarper , their maintenance team have spent 3 years trying to eliminate drafts.
