Brake discs

Featured Replies

Hi, how can I find out what size my front discs are and any recommendations on brands?

Lots of posts here and on VW forums (GTI parts) will say you can get it from your car’s options code label. It definitely wasn’t on mine. Without that your best bet is taking a wheel off and measuring the disc yourself. You can then either order from www.tps.trade , Eurocarparts, Opie Oils,eBay, etc. Whichever takes your fancy. The code label is either in the car’s service book or in the spare wheel well.

You should be able to find a list of the option codes, as per this link: http://igorweb.org/decoder/howto.html

You can then type them in to get them de-coded here: http://igorweb.org/equidec.aspx

More than likely the smaller 312mm but, taking the wheel off is the only sure way I'm afraid

Kinda remember May 2016 they reduced the Diesel's front discs to 312mm, I might  e wrong though so please do check. Its 340mm if not so, you'll be able to tell the difference

Yeah, I do recall that they downsized the discs on my model year, I’ll get a wheel off and check.
thanks again.

Seems odd to reduce the disc size. Normally manufacturers increase the disc to aid with braking. There must be some reason behind it.

Cost saving???

312mm is the size for tsi 180 also.

You can also check the caliper shape. If strait = 340mm, if curved = 312mm. Look at picture for golf 7 gti brakes and you'll understand what I mean.

Un sprung weight reduction isn't a bad thing

Just measured mine and they are 340 x 30 approx. My cars build date was Oct 2015.

Mine doesent even have the print out codes in the wheel well! 😕

The option codes on the sticker in the vehicle or in the service book are not the full codes of the vehicle. The full option/build codes can be found via erwin with the vehicles VIN number but you will need to register an account and pay for access. One hour is just over 8 Euros. This also enables you to download the workshop manuals. Or you could possibly get this info from a Skoda dealership:  https://erwin.skoda-auto.cz/erwin/showHome.do

Having these extra build codes then enables you to make much more sense of parts diagrams such as https://7zap.com/en/catalog/cars/Skoda/brand/17/0
