Thank the lord for Briskoda. I'd have broken the key before I got into it if I'd just followed the manual. 

The Audi or Vw manuals are no better. Luckily the dealer showed me how to find the ‘ramp’ when one of the keys died.

Just found this thread and did this for my superb (2.5 years old)  after watching the video.. took 30 secs.. I don't want to think what shape it would of ended up in without the video. Cheers

The third key was a factory cost option.

Indeed. Used to be called “Personalisation of Drive Mode”. For £45.

 

Now £50 gets you what’s known as “Third Key”.

It appears the method of opening the latest fobs to change the battery has changed slightly.

That’s the one in my manual. Seems to mean push key blade in, then take out and slide cover off. That’s the bit that won’t move, even with my grippy glove. Might as well take to dealer, although warnings about their dodgy batteries might send me elsewhere.

Hi guys. My battery is running low. Ideally I’d like to leave it till it’s properly dead but I suppose I risk being left in all sorts of trouble if that happens at the wrong time. I understand the doors can be unlocked with the pull out key but I assume there is no way to start the engine with Start/Stop system unless KESSY is operational ? Cheers

Even if the key fob battery is dead, the immobiliser chip in the fob can activate the system by being placed in close proximity to the start button.

But highly inconvenient to just let the fob battery go dead when you know it's on way out.
