On the estate version i'm just curious on what people use the 'hammock' thing for as I can't think what it is useful to put in there ?

It can be a handy area for storing A1 plans that are rolled up

I use the largest net (located on the bottom) to hold down bags etc from the supermarket or cases. The smaller nets are attached on the LH and RH sides and hold various items like a foldable snow shovel, gloves, first aid kit, spare carrier bags, spare high vis, an old towel. The list goes on!

Never used the hammock, and since I never carry A1 papers nor transport elfs, I can't imagine what I should use it for.

I didn’t spec the hammock. In retrospect, I would have liked it, but it’s not something I miss dearly. I would have used it for the two large umbrellas I carry in the trunk. That would just about be it.

The hammock carries my blanket and pillows. What I like about this compartment is that it is invisible unless you roll the sliding boot cover in all the way. 

 

Don't be tempted to carry beer cans in there, you'll regret it in every turn.

Is the hammock the big net? I think I have one still in it's bag in the boot of mine. This weekend I'm going to be collecting some reptile vivariums - may use the netting to tie those down. Maybe. If they're in cardboard boxes then it wont matter so much

It's a roll-up pocket that sits beneath the sliding boot cover. 

Ah, do you mean variable boot? I don't have one. I guess that means I do not have the hammock
