dump valve??

Featured Replies

does anyone no wot a dump valve would sound like on my fabia vrs?

Pretty silly tbh as diesels dont need them.

You cant fit a regular dump valve, you would have to spend circa £300 on an electically activated one.

Now now there is no need for that. It is a sensible question, just not inline with alot of views. But give the chap a chance.

Something like this will give the effect of a dump valve on a diesel (i.e. the sound):

You'll need both IIRC:

and

Please note I'd check the latter as it doesn't mention the Fabia vRS etc..

Looking at a fairly costly bit of kit for zero benefit though, 300-ish quid.

Shouldnt have any impact on performance :)

I have a dump valve fitted to my Furby VRS, i bought mine from The Derv Doctor and fitted it myself. In my opinion i think it sound pretty good, my car is running around 24psi, so there is alot of pressure to get rid of.

As for performance, not sure, not really engine minded.

All PD diesels engines have VNT (Variable Vane Tchnology) As used by Porsche on their New 997 Turbo, and so have no need for a dump valve, as the main reason for a dump valve is to get rid of excess boost to stop the turbo stalling when you get back on the gas again!

IRC a VNT Turbo adjusts the pitch of it's blades to stop turbo stall and is thus more efficent!

If you want a Woosh..Pshhhht noise everytime you change up buy a scooby! Just my Humble 2ps worth! Personally I would rather spend £300 on a remap or some decent suspension, but each to their own LOL

Correct Steve.

Diesel dump valve, lol I had the hydrahulic suspension on my non turbocharced BX diesel. The pump often made a psschtt noise :).

Can't say I can see any reason for a dump valve, i'd definately save it for something else. A faster remapped car is surely much more impressive that it making a noise.

EDIT: I've just watched the two videos, that 306 1.9TD sounded bloody awful. I had one of those and I can tell you that fitting a K&N induction kit as was done to a friends by me as I had the tools makes a far more impressive noise :)

I much prefer the excess pressure noise my furby makes - VRROOOOOM, cha-cha-cha-ch-ch-ch-shh

That £400 will go toward something a lot more useful on my car. :)
