Software Updates

Featured Replies

Hi

New Scala SEL DSG  in Jan this year the car is the my best driving Skoda yet but the infotainment system leaves a lot to be desired

A few little niggles, every time I use the car after 2 or 3 minutes  it comes up with Software update needed.

I have done the software update many times and it comes back saying completed

I turn off the ignition and restart the car the reminder appears again.

Any idea how to stop this

Thanks in anticipation

Niggles  The sat nave cannot pronounce names in English very well and the post code entry needs fixing (see other posts).

I like to see the clock on the screen, its a 50 / 50 chance the clock will come up on screen or it will be blank

Heater fan speed control is a bind when driving alone it takes your concentration away having to look and fiddle with the screen to adjust

I dont have the same infotainment system in my Scala as yours, but I have reset option in the menu. Does yours?

It almost sounds like its got itself confused and a reset my help?

Im a bit happy that I dont have the climatronic aircon - lots of reviews say the same thing about the fan speed control being hard to use easily.

There is something nice about simple control dials you can use without looking.

This was my exact reservation about the heater controls too.  Time will tell if I get used to it.  At least the system doesn’t lag like it did in the previous generation Focus!

i leave my heater in Auto adjusts its self i have not adjusted the fan speed as no need to in auto

Unfortunately it will be at least 3 weeks more before I get to try it for myself, but that sounds logical.  My car has arrived at the dealership, but the government locked the country down before they could PDI and deliver 😞

I feel for you - must be painful having to wait for your new delivery and it being so close!

Yes.  On the positive side it would have been torture looking at a new car I couldn’t drive!  The frustrating thing was delivery was supposed to take 3 weeks but has been about 7!

I had the same on mine (SEL) kept saying update available and kept doing it, seems to be OK at the moment, hoping to try out wireless android auto (wish I had a wireless charger) might get an aftermarket tray charger

That's my experience as well, I rarely control the fan speed manually.

Having this on mine too.  Its a pain.  You think its updated then it decides it needs the update again.  Has a nasty habit of doing it while you are driving and so cant do the update anyway!

I got myself an "Unbreakcable" branded wireless charger for less than £15.  Works fine plugged in to the USB C (with an amazon basics short cord) and cost a heck of a lot less than specifying the factory option!  It would probably possibly fit under the Skoda mat but tbh does a good job of gripping the phone as it is.

We have had our ex-demo Scala SE L for three very enjoyable weeks, but there seems to be a software problem, the same as Yetiherts.  It says a software update is available, you download it and it says it is now up to date - but next time you switch on the dreaded "software update is available" appears again. you download it, it says it is complete and up to date..............and so on.   Any ideas, please?   I am still learning what is what on it, so don't really want to do a reset and lose everything I have gradually input, often by trial and error!

6 months in and Scala DSG SEL  is still trying to update software, garage says it needs to go in as I have also go so many other problems with the info system. At startup after 3 to 4 mins with the engine running the info screen comes to life  (starts up blank nothing working heater reversing camera etc),  I then turn off all the 3 crap messages. Turn off Stop-start, Turn Off Lane Control. After all that to its credit  the car is without doubt my best driving  and comfortable Skoda yet. (3xFabia's 1x Yeti with 3 DSG duff gearboxes, 1xCitigo).

The fly in the ointment is my brilliant Skoda garage that I purchased it from  has now closed during lock down and moved into a VW dealer who are a load of unhelpful ******* who look at you as if you are a piece of S..t for buying a Skoda.

I should add once the the infotainment system is up and running it works perfectly until the next restart apart from the intermittent Software Update message AGHHHHHHH

I had this problem, plus, acc light kept coming on. Took it in for reprogramming ( second time ). Seems ok ( so far ).

I did get the software update thing for the first few days but it seemed to sort itself out. The only issues I am having is it seems to take 2-3 minutes to load up my profile and sometimes the infotainment system freezes when moving between reverse parking sensors and the normal home.  Only way to get it to work is to hold down the power button for 10 seconds and reboot it.

Is this a Microsoft based system by any chance?  Sat nav woman sounds familiar

I had the slow profile load. It was after the vehicle had been locked away for several weeks. Charging the battery cleared that one.

The operating system most likely Linux. Used by Tesla, Audi, Mercedes etc.

Hi, Skoda Newbie having just picked up our Scala SEL less than 2 weeks ago and getting the software update message every time I start the engine up.  Getting frustrated with it now as the car has only 60 miles on clock.  Has anyone actually managed to get a permanent fix from Skoda regarding this??

Thanks in advance

Audi is only just moving to Automotive Linux though, but I suspect you could be right given Scala is supposed to be the first vehicle in the group to get the latest OS.  Previously Audi were on QNX iirc.  VW’s bespoke OS is being developed with Microsoft just to complicate things further, though I’m sure I read somewhere it was possibly going to be android based (which to be fair is based on Linux anyway). I could be wrong but I think Mercedes May still be shipping cars with QNX as well 🤔.  The sooner we get a stable and reliable OS across different brands the better IMO, so great that most now seem to be partners in the Automotive Linux programs.

Interesting about the battery - must try that.  I was shocked at how small it was when I saw it and I do quite a lot of short trips!  Now I think about it the Fiesta (based on Windows) ICE wasn’t happy when the battery was low.

As above, mine seemed to fix itself after a few decent journeys.  Haven’t had a prompt for a couple of weeks.
