Replace radio head unit

Featured Replies

I am looking at replacing my head unit on my Skoda octavia mk2 pre facelift 2007 the radio part number is 1Z0035161B can anyone got any suggestions

Depends on how much you're willing to spend and what kind of features you're after.

The android head units are popular as you get a lot of features for your money, but you have to do your research and make sure you don't get one with a weak processor or not enough RAM.

The Columbus is popular as a genuine Skoda headunit, but they are expensive and a bit dated.

I fitted a Chinese head unit to the Octavia, it gave me a lot of problems until I realised that it would crash when multi-tasking, not using another function like the radio, media player etc at the same time as the satnav was the solution.

So with what now are realistic expectations I bought another for the Yeti for half the price of the previous, - this is it:

And to date it seems capable of multi-tasking and does not crash, I dont yet have a reversing camera connected but it switches screens to the correct one with a "no video available" message and switches back, I dont have parking sensors so they may also have been causing the crashes but I think that this one is a good un and at the price I am very happy.

It was a returned unit packaging had been opened but everythingw as there and no signs of it having ever been fitted.

Using the links in the listing you can see the difference in price between the WinCE and the Android units, I prefer the real control buttons & knobs on the WinCE version not being a fan of touch screens, I am currently blind in one eye and prefer to keep the good one on the road, I can operate all of the vehicle controls by feel wth perhaps a quick glance but not touch screen commands.

JR,

I too am looking for a unit to replace my Radio/CD/Satnav head unit.

I was intrigued by the devices shown at https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-Stereo-DVD-Player-GPS-Sat-Nav-for-VW-Tiguan-Polo-Jetta-Sharan-Caddy-T5-DAB/193273063055?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649

My '05 Octy mk2 (DSG) has a Nexus (MFD2) SatNav that does not show ether my front or rear proximity sensors in the display, do you know if the one you bought does (or could) ?

I am looking for a device that will Bluetooth with my mobile phone and use the buttons on my multi function steering wheel.

Anyone else out there have any suggestions?

F.

My original WinCE unit (identical to the new one) fitted to the Octavia 2 worked perfectly with the reversing sensors, gave a much more detailed display and maybe a coincidence but before fitting the sensors were always playing up, giving false alerts, sounding permenantly and especially reacting to objects at the side like reversing parallel to a wall, since fitting the head unit they have worked faultlessly for a year.

The Yeti the new unit is fitted to does not have reversing sensors but if it did then they would be displayed, it picks up all the signal inputs from the Canbus and the factory settings are set to the VAG protocole so it knows the steering angle and displays the trajectory lines on the reversing camera, door open inputs, steering wheel controls etc, its plug n play.

I asked them for the PIN code to access the factory settings to change them to RHD, they replied giving it to me today on a sunday so a good reactive company.
