Scout Spring Retrofit (?)

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm wondering if a set of Scout springs would fit a stock (non-4x4) Octavia estate. I can't find any information suggesting that the struts are any longer nor that the channels in the mounts will be any different, only that the top mount bolt configuration is different and therefore complete suspension swaps won't work. I've found some H&R Scout +1" lift springs shipped from Germany which would be great for me assuming they fit.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Cheers

According to the parts diagrams (see below) and my Octy 2 Haynes the rear spring top mounts all look to be the same?

There are a number of rear suspension options listed for estate, 4x4 estate, heavy duty, lowered etc. but the standard and 4x4 estate top mounts look to be the same.

There is no separate listing for the Scout which normally means the item is the same as the Octy 2.

Cheers Micky that's all very helpful. Any idea on front suspension?

Was told by a Skoda tech there was no difference between the springs on a Scout and a non Scout Octavia.

Even if there were, I wouldn't spec them, as my Octy Scout was going through springs like a one season calender. I could understand this if I abused my vehicle, or attacked speed humps at maxi chat speed, but I didn't. The only thing I could think was causing this was due to having a non dropped kerb leading up to my shared drive.

Speccing Goodyear Vector 4 Season Gen2's, did make a noticeable difference.

+1 for the Goodyear 4 seasons, and totally agree re the longevity of the Scouts springs.

The Scout springs are slightly longer than those for an Octy 2 estate. I found this out to my cost when my local mechanic replaced the rears with a set from the local motor factors.  My headlamps were blinding fellow motorists.

Not sure if this is of any use, but this is a photo of the nearside rear suspension set-up on my 2008 Octavia Scout.

I understand the three coloured dots on the spring give an indication of their specification?

The weight of the coil springs on the 4WD is much more than the 2WD.

2WD front is about 1.65kg, 4WD front is about 2.45kg. 2WD rear is about 1.95kg, 4WD rear is about 2.60kg. My own estimate is that the front using 4WD springs is raised by about 28mm, and the rear using 4WD springs is raised by about 44mm. My estimate takes the different lengths into account, and assumes that every 0.25mm of extra coil spring thickness compresses 4mm less on an unladen car. My estimate could be out by quite a bit, but I would still expect the 4WD springs to add a lot of height to the car, especially at the rear. You may not like the much harder ride, as the 4WD springs are much heavier duty.

You can compare the specification of the 2WD and 4WD springs on the gknautomotive.com website. They have an online catalogue.
