I bought a UFI 2603800 filter but it didn't come with a seal. What size is it and where can i buy one? I can't find one anywhere- just like a lot of things at the moment

I got it from Amazon, I can't see any listed on there

Hi, Why don't you open a claim? It doesn't seem normal to me. 🤔

I've changed 7-8 fuel filters on 5 different VAG cars (2 Brands). Fuel filters were always delivered with seals. I think it's the same thing for all VAG engine types.

Does the 2.0 tdi definitely need the seal? I've never changed a fuel filter on this engine and looking for a compatible filter none of the options come with a separate seal. Maybe it is inbuilt. Can anyone advise with knowledge of changing the filter on this specific  engine? Thanks 

@NJRJ Thanks  No, whatever the price, thay all shall be delivered with the seal.

 

@Banquo Yes, the seal is mandatory. Otherwise, the engine bay will be 'showered' with fuel! Not that dangerous with a diesel, but could be very serious with a petrol engine 😱!

It happened to my dad. He changed the fuel filter on a 1.9 TDI 105HP on his former Octi2, but unfortunately did not put the seal correctly. We had a short drive ~10 km away from home when we noticed it, we had no other solution to drive home slowly (no tool with us to fix it), but we had burnt 3/4 of the tank in only ~20 km 😲 !!!! What a mess to clean everything after that! We had to remove the front bumber and front headlights to clean everything in the engine bay with whit spirit. 

Thus, believe me, you definitely need the seal!

 

Fortunately, the design has been improved on more recent common rail engines (including 2.0 TDI). Now this is 'murphy proof'. Since the seal is directly mounted on the filter (normally...), this bad story shall not happen again. It's very simple to install. You can't do it wrong !... Assuming the filter is delivered with it's seal... Try to make a claim, to get a correct one.

So you can't answer definitively that it needs a separate seal. I'm beginning to think it doesn't need one. Again, anyone able to tell me if it definitely needs a seal? (for the 2.0l TDI)

@Banquo May be my English is not good enough. Sorry, it's not my mother tongue. But I write it once again. Current filters MUST be delivered with seal already mounted on. See ETKA screenshot below for 2.0TDI fuel filter on a 2016 MK3 (same as yours). See part #2. There's no reference for the seal on its own.

 

 

This means you CAN'T buy a seal separately.

And you CAN'T go without seal. I hope I've been clearer in my explanations. 🤔

 

Now, if you want to try without seal, feel free. You will soon wish you had made a claim or buy a new filter with a seal.

Finally got round to replacing the fuel filter today and can confirm that for my vehicle no o ring is required

Wow... Why did you say that your filter came without seal if it is like this?... Indeed, this is not an O-ring seal but a "U-shape" or rubber lip seal clamped on the upper part. Hence, you received a filter with its seal...

I included a photograph in my original post and was asking for specific advice for my vehicle. I selected not helpful because I didn't find the advice helpful or relevant to my question. Thanks for the help anyway. 

 This was the first time I have replaced the fuel filter on my car so if someone has the same vehicle and question in the future at least they will know now that the filter doesn't require a separate o ring
