The 06 experience so far..

Featured Replies

Now done over 1,000 miles since 30th March, car in the dealers today for:

1. rattle/creak from top of drivers door/window - annoying when stereo not on

2. creaking squeaky clutch pedal.

3. Redo the teflon TFT coating (salesman wanted this re-done even though it looked OK to me).

4. Wrinkled rear seats to be sorted out.

Other than that it is quicker, quieter, more responsive and feels better on the road than the old 04 one (bridgestone tyres fitted by the way). Ok there is 45,000 miles difference between the cars, but I don't remember the 04 one being as good when new.

Anyone else who's gone from one vRS to another think they are better?

By the way, the engine does feel different and 'hunt' on idle etc but not a problem for me so far (see other threads on this).

4,000 miles since 2nd March - traded in a '04 vRS for this one. Did 58k miles in that. From what I remember this one is (or seems) more powerful and responsive, generally smoother - other than slome "stuttering" off the blocks.

No other faults or problems - exept they should have issued ear plugs with the Bridgestones !!

Very well pleased !! Roger M

Hi Maff : Your 1st point re door/window creak/rattle - mine does exactly the same. Would be very interested to find out how they resolve it , im waiting until the 10k service to ask them to do mine.

Cheers

800 miles since 1st April, i have the same squesky creak from the pedals.

Loving everything else though.

My first VRs as im only 19 but i smoked a Vectra 2.2 SRI today!!

i have the same squesky creak from the pedals.

mine had that on test drive (05 plate) along with a buggered fuel cap but all was fixed beforre delivery

I have the squeak on the clutch which is no problem but the disappointing thing is the suspension seems softer than my 05 car with more body roll, don't get me wrong I would much prefer to soft rather than to hard but my 05 rode the bumps just as well yet with better body control in the corners.

Other than that it seems fine and pulls well but the engine seems a bit noisier than the 05

As far as I know they were going to adjust the door catch plate (the bit that holds the door closed). It seemed to me this is proabably the cause as I could feel the door flexing when going along by putting my hand on the rubber seal between the body and the door. Trouble is though it's difficult to really have a go at a diagnose on the driver's side while going along!

Tried pushing my fingers between the door and the rubber seal and sure enough there is some flex there, also it stops the rattle.

Its the bar that the dash attaches to. Mine was in for 3 days. They took the dash out completely. It seems that all the nuts need lubricating and nipping up tighter. They also found that the wiring loom was not attached properly. Get it booked in!!

Car back. Some news:

Good: Nice quiet clutch pedal (for now!), shiny from the TST teflon which is indeed much better and smooth to touch than before.

Neutral news: No resolution on the wrinkled seats, dealer taking it up with Skoda, probably going to replace the seats.

Bad news: Unable to resolve the creaky door, they want to take the car to the bodyshop as it is assumed there is a problem with the door alignment

Suddenly become paranoid that something might have happened to the car - why on earth should it need bodyshop work at three odd weeks and 1,600 miles?!?

Maybe the 06 feels quicker because of the shorter gear ratios in the new gearbox.

Maybe the 06 feels quicker because of the shorter gear ratios in the new gearbox.

I had the shorter gear ratios in my 04 - the 03 plate I test drove originally was definitely longer in the gear than that car.

The 06 is definitely quicker and more grunt (have now tried it to see what top speed it has on the speedo, more than the 04).

Dealer mentioned to me that some Fabias have different turbos and there can be a difference up to 10-15 BHP.

Happy anyway.

Any update on your creaky door problem, I also have this on my 06 vrs and it's driving me mad! I've also got a squeeking/grating clutch prob, well it's not just the clutch, it's noticable when gently lifting on/off the accelarator at low speeds, was your problem similar to this?

That sounds like my problem. Any chance you could go into any more detail of what it sounds like? My kind of makes a grating strange type noise (very quiet, but you know its there) when doing similar things...

Not sure about going into detail, I don't know how I can describe the noise, it's just a random grating noise, it is a lot worse when first starting up each morning and occurs when changing between 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear at low speeds. It also happens when lifting on and off the accelerator gently, this would indicate its something to do with the weight shifting in the car, I guess it could be something as simple as a stone rocking back and forward somewhere in the engine bay? It's ceratinly not what I'd call a quiet noise as it's really noticable for the first 10 minutes after startup. Noise continues after the car has warmed up but it's certainly a degree quieter. I've got it booked in for Saturday as it's not right. Sorry I can't be more descriptive.

Sorry to hijack the thread abit, but this sounds a lot like my problem - could you let me know how you get on riggsy? :)

Mine did the same. They removed the dash and tightened the 'bar' that the dash is secured to and re-routed a wiring loom. (They say it was fitted wrong at the factory) It stopped, but now it sometimes does it again (Front right dash near the door/A pillar)

If it's a metal wrattle type noise, it may be a heat shield under your car that is loose. Get it on my Mk3 Gti all the time - at about 1300 RPM. It's easy to fix. Sounds like a metal tray has accidentally been left on top of your engine.

hope that helps, D

Door fixed on Saturday, just tightened/realigned, no problems with rattle/noise now. Dealers said they couldn't hear the grating noise on accelerating slowly, I took mechanic out for a test run at the end of his shift and he could hear it, pulled over opened the bonnet and figured out it was the flexible exhaust hose gently grating on the heat shield with engine movement, just bent the pipe slight with his hand, all is now great!
