when i open driver door, the dash does not tell me that it is open, is it meant to? as all the other doors and boot lets me know.

are you talking about the locking mechanism? if so, i have only changed one not long ago, open door, undo 2 bolts and swap over.

It is indeed meant to light up. The tiny little switch buried inside the latching mechanism is likely the cause, rather than the lock itself. Or, the wiring which can become brittle may have failed. Mine has the same issue, as does my grandmother’s polo, and it just seems to be a failure point, with the drivers door wearing out quickest.

I discovered that because of this failure, when I unlock the car and open the drivers door, it still auto locks after 30 seconds. Also the lights on chime doesn’t work. Ive had a few close encounters with leaving lights on that way!
It can be expensive to fix because the micro switch comes as part of the entire latching mechanism unit (hence why I’ve not bothered), but it can on occasion be fixed by spraying a bit of magic juice (WD40) into the mechanism (because the switch can get stuck in the fully down position).

had a look at the loom, nothing is broke then sprayed some eletrical spray. still didnt work so think urbanpanzer is correct, the locking mechanism is faulty 😞

just an update:

when the door is not fully closed (clicks once) and i force to open from the inside, the door shows up on the dash and the interior light lights up. it does seem to work but how do i fix this? do i have to undo the bolt to the door mechanism and move it about?

i have a feeling this can be fixed without replacing as it still works when i nudge it sort of thing.

anyone know what i must do?

anyone please help

in all fairness, by the time you have removed the lock assy and messed with it to try and fix which I doubt would be a 100% reliable option......it would be easier to fit a new one and be done with it imo.

many thanks for reply.

i have tried taking it off before but i couldnt take that wire off from the handle though.

Hi Froggy8, Do you have access to a Haynes manual, at all? That may well show you how to remove said part. If you don't, I can try looking in my one for you but having one is invaluable, costs around £20 new but may be much cheaper on the 'bay!

yes i have a haynes book, forgot about that. thankyou.

do you think that link what i posted above will do the job?

thank you again

Do you mean the part? It is actually dearer then ones you can buy from Ebay, which have a 5 year warranty on them! I often see this... Breakers want top dollar and can even be dearer then the main dealer, for brand new, genuine, two year warranty parts but on the 'bay, I saw some for around £23. The only thing is making sure they are the correct version, which the seller will usually ask for your reg. number or chassis number, to be accurate.

Have a look at this sellers parts and see if they are matching. Cut and paste the, it will then give you a listing from RGT Automotive and they will most likely have the matching part.

Personally, I would ring the dealer, give them your vehicle info and get the correct part / price of a new one.

Your vehicle is around the time the number changed, so it needs to be correct...........then you can judge the cost of a new V reliability / cost of a second hand one.

In my opinion, if you intend to keep the car I would invest in new, but thats my thoughts.

ok, an update:

i have rang skoda, if i had to order from them it would be £128, instead of asking them to order, i asked them for the part number.

am i right in thinking i just typed the part number in ebay search box and they will all fit?
