battery replacement

Featured Replies

I have a Skoda Octavia 1.6tdi estate 2011, I think its a mk11. I need confirmation I am following the correct procedure when changing the battery

I don't need a battery memory saver or Radio codes is this correct.

All I need to do is undo the terminals, negative first.

Remove the sleeve and battery retaining bolt.

Remove the old battery and replace it with a new one in reverse order.

Turn the engine on and lower and raise all the electric windows fully, waiting a couple of seconds when fully open and closed.

Drive the car at above 20mph and all the warning lights for power steering etc should disappear.

Is this the correct procedure. Any help appreciated thanks.

I never had any issues with the radio etc when I changed mine. Just had to reset the windows as you mentioned. I put a 096 battery in it. Fitted fine and much better performance than the original.

ok thanks. didn't think I needed a radio code or battery memory saver.

I'd to get mines replaced tale end of last year at Halfords in Rochdale and they just swapped battery over and everything worked fine from the off.... The power steering light was on but went off as I drove out the car park ... Went for the 096 batter at 80AH and 760CCA

If memory serves me well, the code is saved in the head unit.

Not sure if there is a requirement to drive at 20mph, just that you have drive for a short distance so that the ECU (?)  has to sort itself out.

Got my battery changed at Halfords 5 years ago and I can't remember experiencing any issues, so probably didn't.

My experience with changing batteries recently (two faulty Lucas batteries in a row, finally replaced by one from Tayna) is that after reconnecting a battery the dash lights up like a Christmas tree but most of the lights go out once you start the car.  From memory the ABS, steering and traction control lights didn't go out until I started to drive the car but within half a mile or so all was fine.  The systems showing lights didn't give any indication of mot working properly - everything drove just fine.

Many thanks for all the replies, have bought a Varta 027 D24 60ah which is virtually the same as the original that is in the car (£58.80 from Euro car parts). Will be fitting it this afternoon and let you know how I get on.
