Columbus - how to transfer files to storage/jukebox on new iV

Featured Replies

Clever people, technologists, ICE buffs - help please.

Just got our new iV L&K. Lovely car, sat on the drive through CVid19, so playing and continuing the set up. Very different to our previous Mk3 L&K - took me ages for example to work out the seat settings - buttons are the same but previously you held down the memory button and the number you wanted...now hit one after the other. That was halg an hour wasted! And totally foxed by the Columbus system.

Spec'd the phone charger option for purchase (in case it's relevant, there is no other ICE option such as Premium WLAN). In the glovebox there is now a blank plate where the old CD, SD Card, SIM car went in for Columbus on the previous car. But I have activated web via the eSIM so that's fine, we've got connectivity and can set up a hot spot and so on.

Now want to put music onto the built in storage (which I assume it still has...). Have a load of albums (11Gb) on a USB stick, I can put the USB stick in the USB socket by the phone charger, and it plays on the system, sees the albums and so on. But I want to transfer this onto the Columbus storage as I could before (from SD card, but as I say no SD card slot...). Does anyone know how, what settings, where in the menu please? There is  not a word about this in the manual (book or on-line).

If I remove the USB, it does seem to show storage - but of course it's empty so it simply says 'no tracks available'.

I'm feeling very stupid. Or by paying more for the WLAN option have I actually downgraded my system - no CD/DVD, SIM, SD Card, internal storage? Daft if I have and should have been told of this I feel!

You can download a manual for Columbus Infotainment on Škoda's website.

I can't remember exactly how it works, but the source you're looking to play from is Jukebox. That's the internal storage.  In the system you can upload up to 10 gigs of tunes to Jukebox via a USB stick using "manage Jukebox" in the system.

Thanks freelunch - apologies, not always clear how much detail to give. Already tried this.

In the online/downloaded manual it says you can manage the jukebox through <media-settings/cog wheels/manage jukebox>. But in media-settings, all I get as options are 'Manage Favourites', 'Sound', Select Bluetooth audio device', Wi-Fi', and 'Traffic Programme'.

Cannot find any reference to Jukebox in the menus. Mind you the manual also talks about CD/DVD play. Find it hard to believe I've paid £45,000 for a car which has been downgraded in the ICE department! You're right it used to 10.1Gb - I had homes for a bit more...but can't find anything.

BR, David.

Well, I'm out of my depth as my car is older. Maybe "Favourites" is the new Jukebox? Will it respond to any of the below if you "manage Favourites"?

Failing that, there is a dedicated ICE forum here.

Thanks - as I say, there is no 'manage jukebox' function in the memory. Have double checked the brochure - standard kit is Columbus - including DVD for example. I'm wondering if a mistake was made in my build. Others may know! I'll check the ICE forum also.

Hi freelunch, can you repost the ICE link please? Or post the URL. Not linking.

Think we've solved the issue...another (yet another) Skoda mess up. The iV marketing, manual, website are all fundamentally  incorrect, and the iV has a new MIB3 Columbus. In a 'step forward' it no longer has CD/DVD, SD card readers, external SIM, jukebox. Just a blank plate in the glovebox.

Only an internal eSIM so every six months it can update maps automatically. Progress eh? Oh, and they've shaved hundreds of pounds off the build cost. And only way for WiFi hotspot is to sign up to the exhorbitant web service through Skoda. My ee SIM data card from the previous car is redundant...with 24 months at £25 a month to run on the contract. Skoda's is about three times the price.

So fed up with their lazy (even dishonest) marketing. But the manual (and e manual) being all wrong is something else. Lovely car, but this is a big disappointment. Jukebox was really useful and meant whoever drove we had sounds, used the SIM, loved putting podcasts on SD for long journeys, Mrs B played her CD's.

Thanks to my dealer for looking into it, especialy now, but it's taken the shine off a very expensive purchase. I wonder what other changes to expect, what else was left off the build...and what to believe and not believe in the manuals and marketing.

Are those the right figures as I’ve currently got a Three sim which allows ample monthly data totally free!

The two parts of Skoda Connect which I subscribe to come to about £70 per year though.

Presumably the first year is free for you?

Hi Jon999boy,

I'd love a SIM which gave free data. No mine is an ee card, which with a discount I get, and on a contract, costs £25 a month for unlimited data.

You're right Skoda Connect is in two parts. Free for the first year is the car services (so maps, updates and so on) and then they'll start charging for that. Goodness knows what that costs.

However we also set up a hotspot in the car - often three using (wife and two kids, kids often streaming video etc.) Long journeys. Previously on my unlimited ee SIM so no issue. Now have to pay for the Skoda service, provided by and locked to a firm called CUBIC Telecom based in Ireland. That is £98.99 for 60Gb, which I've calculated will last us between two months to three months (although it's valid for a year).  By comparison if I bought 60Gb on PAYG with ee it would cost £30.00 - so Skoda/CUBIC are ripping me off for three times and more the price - and there's nothing I can do about it if I want the service we had before.

And still no jukebox, SD card, CD/DVD etc..

I've just checked and the Skoda Connect cost is (for me) £74 per year after the first year for both parts. This is for them to provide the service and for me to get it via my free 200mb SIM.

It looks like the latter part is now incorporated into the first whereas (I think) only certain bits were previously from the eSIM. Could the maps be updated from your phone?

I seem to recollect setting up a hotspot in my car but never used it as it wasn't really necessary to share anything within the car, from the car.

You certainly don't want your hotspot to be on anything else other than direct from your phone though as you'd be wasting money.

The map updates are free for 3 years but you obviously need a way to get them to the car - ideally without cost.

Itchy fingers

Surely this loss in functionality is worth the price given that you're now saving the planet with your hybrid goodness :giggle:

Why not just get a very compact USB drive, e.g. SanDisk Ultra Fit 64 GB USB 3.1 Flash Drive? it is very unobtrusive when plugged into the socket, just a bit fiddly to remove.

Hi,

as you have an L&K I assume that it is the same as mine and has a normal USB socket in the centre box. Just tested it on mine and it works great for playing music from.

I have a 128Gb card in there to test and it is all OK.

Many thanks, yes, that solves a bit of the issue!

  • 1 year later...

Just spotted this thread. I have the same Columbus unit in my car. The problem I have is with audiibooks, when you leave the car it goes back to the start of the book, is there any way to stop it doing that?
