Scout gone crazy! Battery?

Featured Replies

My 2010 scout seems to have developed a mind of its own. Alarm going off, radio randomly turning on when nobody is in the car, doors unlocking.

My 1st guess is battery on its last legs, anyone had similar before I splash the cash? As  far as I know it's the original battery so 10 years old.

Starts and drives fine, no codes stored...

Thanks everyone!

If it starts fine I am inclined to think it's not the main battery.

Just a thought, perhaps the alarm unit battery has failed and is causing chaos.

Batteries tend to last about 5 years before the vehicle starts displaying niggly faults or issues.  Happened to me at the 5 year mark, and as my vehicle was approaching the 10 year mark, I was looking at replacing the battery during the summer, but have now traded in the car.

Thanks guys. Hope it's not the siren battery. Looks like a major faff.

Might just replace the main battery, I have had the car coming up to 7 years and never replaced it so can't be too happy.

New battery ordered from ECP.

In the meantime I have put a solar trickle charger on the car and I have not noticed any other strange behaviour which suggests it is the battery to me. Although the car hasn't moved for 2 weeks so maybe it's just completely dead! (Don't think so!)

There is a good chance it is the battery.

A common misconception is that it can't be a failing battery if the engine is starting OK. There have been plenty of threads about strange electrical symptoms on cars with engines that still start no differently.

Fingers crossed the Varta fixes the issue.
