Glove Box Door Rattle

Featured Replies

Hi Folks

Can anyone suggest a fix for the annoying rattle coming from my glove box door (apart from drowning it out with the stereo). I think that it originates from the left hand side of the door catch.

Cheers

i have the same problem too.....arrrgh drives me mad

rattle has come back now

can't identify the exact location though

please help someone.....

Got the same problem on mine. Seems to be related to the door not being held firmly against the rubber bump stops on the surround when the door is closed. it go's when you lightly push the door. happens around 2k revs. Keep meening to have a good look and find a fix for it. I'm sure they'll be a simple solution.

Have the same problem myself but it seems to come and go.

Intend on letting the dealer sort it and the rattling spare wheel/tool carrier.

I have this problem on the Octy. Seems to come from the mechanism/ bar assembly rattling when it's closed. I have found that it doesn't rattle when it is pushed in tight or held out a bit, where the metal bar is tight against the plastic and has no room to rattle.

I have found that a small strip (3 or 4 cm) of rubber draught excluder stuck at either side of the glove box (just beside where the bar goes into the dashboard/ fixed plastic holes) will stop the rattle when the glove box door is closed against it. This reduces the movement, and gives a tighter close.

I was going to suggest some felt strips stuck between the two parts that are rattling - had the same problem on a BMW Z3 and that cured it.

had a new door fitted , not as bad as the original , i also padded it out with sticky foam pads ,seems ok now ,i gave up on all the other annoying rattles

three years ago I bought a new Fabia SDI and the glove box rattled as I drove away from the dealers. Two weeks later had a Fabia courtesy car whilst they dealt with the rattling glovebox and a paint flaw. The courtesy car had less than 200 miles on the clock and as I drove away from the dealers the glove box started rattling.......!! The fix was as in previous posts, they put two small round sticky pads on the two projections on the inside of the glove box door - this provided enough tension to stop the rattle. I have just changed the car for a 1.4TDI and.......the glove box does not rattle!!.....yet

That's exactly want I've just done tonight!

I'll see if it's worked in the morning.

Me, I too have it, but dont care:confused:

This what I've done:-

Adhesive "feet" on the door, positioned to push against the rubber bump stop in the dash.
