Featured Replies

Hey guys I got problem with my Octavia vrs 2.0tdi pd170 2006 the dpf light is on and glow plug flashing and eml is on lao in limp mode I got a mechanic to try and do a regenerate as he tried it while driving the car to get a reading of the dpf it wouldn't read the soot level it keeps coming up with same fault code p2002 short with power efficiently below threshold..I take it it's a wiring issue?

Once the DPF light is accompanied by the EML, flashing glowplug light and limp-home mode, you can't regenerate the DPF by driving the car.

I am surprised your mechanic didn't know this. All he is doing by driving the car in limp-home mode is filling the DPF up with even more soot and risking the chances of a successful forced regeneration.

As linked above, fault code P2002 is linked to the G450 DPF sensor, a common weak point. Replacing the G450 sensor needs to be your first fix.

The car needs hooking up to a VCDS (VAG-COM), or another diagnostics system to configure the new sensor, at which point you'll be able to check the ash levels in the DPF and then, if necessary, be able to perform a 'forced regeneration' of the DPF.

However, assuming your car is on it's original DPF then it is almost 15 years old. The DPF when paired to the PD170 is already at a disadvantage so if it is still serviceable then you're doing really rather well! I suspect that if it isn't the G450 sensor then the DPF might just be full (at end of life), at which point you'll be looking at a professional clean (not a bloke with a jet wash) or a new aftermarket DPF.

Not sure why this thread was moved to 'General Automotive Chat' as it is specific to the Octavia, but a new DPF can be had for less than £500 these days...
