1.6 tdi DSG

Featured Replies

A SEAT Leon 180PS 1.8TSI / DSG was a cracker IMO.

So was a Polo GTI 1.8TSI DSG but that is 192ps.

I wouldn’t have another Seat the quality is just not there. Never have i owned a car that has had more things fall off it in my life.

focus,

pulsar,

tipo (ha!!)

auris

i30

ceed

thats about it tbh.

unless you feel like braving the french options...

civic could be expensive insurance.

Does not sound too good, what issues did you have? All major?

2011 Fabia - Clutch Judder (Known Issue at the time) Clutch packs replaced.

2014 Octavia - Clutches slow to engage and hesitation, Clutch replaced but soon after gearbox dead, clutches lost comms with ECU, replaced clutches flywheel and Mechatronics. Also had  2x gear levers due to known fault. (Error leave P)

2016 Yeti No1 - Clutch Slip in 2nd and 4th, clutch pack replaced.

2016 Yeti No2 - Clutch slow to engage in 2nd causing high revs before engaging. Handed back to lease company.

focus,

I'd say focus as long as it had the torque converter auto and not Fords dual clutch box.  And that very much depends on engine/year.

I may even look at a new Focus Ecoboost myself with the new 8 speed auto. If I make it through Covd-19 there's going to be a lot of deals available later this year.

I think that is typical with the cheaper end MQB VAG models. Leon/Octavia/Golf in my experience.

Gearbox aside my late Mk2 Octavia and Yetis were bomb proof, solid build not a rattle. No such luck with my Mk3 Octavia or the two I had as loaners for the 6 weeks while the gearbox was out. And that's before we start on the lack of insulation, refinement and audio quality.

The latest focus st lines are good looking cars, however as they only came out in 2018 just now they are still a bit pricey. I also believe the eco-boost is not exactly a reliable engine. Again with the honda civic, love honda's but again just a bit pricey. I don't mind the i30 but would have to be the n-line, again quite pricey as relatively new.

Definitely do not fancy taking my chances on a french marque thats for sure 🤣

Can you wait?

There's already been a 25% slump in new car registrations and some are predicting 50% by June.

There's going to be some mega deals on in the second half of the year.

We buy anycar have reduced their offers significantly in the last few weeks.

If you go for a car with the new 2.0tdi / 7 speed Wet clutch Dsg box (can't remember the number) you'll get a much better engine and hopefully wet dsg reliability (although yet to be proven for this newly introduced version). Also I believe the new 7 speed Wet clutch box may only require servicing at 80,000 mile intervals instead of the 40,000 mile intervals the older Wet boxes require. (DQ200 doesnt require servicing, sealed for "life" 🤔)

Maybe. It depends on the damage done by the shutdown. It may take many months to get new cars coming through again. Executives may feel demand strips supply and justifies a price increase. Many businesses will want to recoup heavy losses as quickly as possible. Governments will be probably increasing tax everywhere. Price inflation is possible.

Hopefully they'll stop this PCP nonsense, everyone involved will have got their fingers well and truly frazzled.

Give cash buyers like me an advantage for once.

Test drove one today, zero gearbox / clutch issues. Drove lovely infact and suprisingly had a bit of grunt. Was a lot less flat than i thought it was going to be. Felt punchier than my current 1.5tsi which was a shock.

@BigJase88

?

What age was it and was it one with or without SCR (AdBlue)?

Pass on the AdBlue. Was a facelift 8V audi A3 on a 66 plate

@BigJase88

I thought you were talking 1.6TDI DSG as per the thread, sorry.

VW call it DSG Audi call it S-tronic

exact same as i am aware. 7 speed dsg/s-tronic mated to the 110bhp 1.6 TDI

OK my bad.

Yes Audi like to charge more for an 's', be it a tfsi rather than tsi, or a ****-tronic rather than DSG.

Unsure if it had AdBlue that’s a good point to consider don’t fancy having to keep that topped up.

No AdBlue in 2016 with 1.6TDI CR's,  that came later to get the WLTP,

and they are just away to be discontinued.

I patched it off in the end

was fearful of the 7 speed DSG plus the car was red didn't exactly want a red car.

Waited a couple of months and i have picked up a black a3 sportback 2.0l tdi s-tronic 6 speed on 0% too, so worth waiting :)
