Suspension and Wheels

Featured Replies

Hello hope everyone keeping safe!

Was just wondering what should be adding to my shopping list. At the minute i've a 2008 PD170 vRS thats looking like an SUV. Has anyone any suggestions on what i should get in terms of coilovers etc? Don't want to go extreme low as the roads near me are bad so around 30-40mm lower. Also, will need a new set of tires soon and was wondering could i go 235 or wider all around with the use of spacers? if this would work what would i need?. Currently ive the car remapped but the EGR and DPF are still in, should i remove all?

Any help would be appreciated and any other suggestions!

Thanks

Jack

you can use 235 without any issues no wider on stock rims

the vRS is 15mm lower as standard so do you mean  30-40 on top of it's current stance or all in total (bare this in mind when considering lowering springs) mine is sat 30-35mm lower than stock (non vrs) if I have a passenger it will rub on speed bumps unless you're careful. if you want the car to look low you will need coilovers.

removing the DPF is a MOT fail so I wouldn't recommend it

Yea I'll probably keep the emissions system and keep it cleaned. As for lowering it you've said yours rubs with a passenger on board, my car sometimes Carrys large items and big gangs so probably not a good idea lowering it at all, plus I've a splitter on the front too. I'll probably go the 235s all round and add some spacers for a wider track just. I looked at your project looks good man👍 I'll probably go the 15mm spacers too. Might sub the lowering and go with upgraded RARB and ARB or better drop links.

Jack

Edit: just doing some research, I'm running 225/40/18 zeniths, most likely 7.5j from factory so I'd probably need to go up in tire profile to accommodate the wider tyres so 235/45/18 instead.

What's your budget suspension wise?

Hello, it would depend on the overall gain from what would be fitted. Looking at what Gissin said above, its gonna be unlikely that I lower the car any further as the roads by me are very bad. I was looking at complete whiteline kits that were 500£~ that seemed pretty good.

We got a H&R -50mm Cup Kit and a Whiteline RARB from Damian at DPM Performance.

As the VRS is 15mm lower than standard, it lowered it by around 30/35mm.

It's been pretty good. Much better than original suspension.

Thanks for the reply, would definitely look at something that spec if i was tracking it but that would be well out of any budget for ordinary road use. That kit I linked above came with the rarb. It's a full whiteline kit and was wondering if it was worth it?

We use it for ordinary road use. It's great.

Thanks for the feedback! It’s a bit out of my price point as I hope to upgrade sometime next year pandemic depending lol. I was just for doing small things until I do upgrade, so adding skirts, refurbish the wheels and maybe an rarb or upgraded droplinks.

The rarb certainly makes a big difference. Cuts down on body roll well.

A set of lowering springs are also really good for the cost. Eibach are really good. H & R are a wee bit stiffer and harsher on the bumps.

Springs and RARB will give a really good upgrade for a reasonable price.

Thanks for the reply! Gonna look at some now will probably look at something like Eibach and look at a whiteline RARB. Dont think I'll need the spacers although I'll probably go with some for a wider stance.

Also, was just wondering as I seen it done on Mk3 vRS's, is there a mod that can be done on the factory Airbox to create forced induction? I've a K&n panel filter in at the minute.

And do you reckon 30mm Eibachs would have much difference on this? The fronts had new bilstein B4 shocks.
