Scart to HDMI ???

Featured Replies

Unless I get a newer SKY HD box, (I have an older non HD so only scart output) I want to be able to connect to a new tv which will only have HDMI input.

My Panasonic set up at the moment has a Scart input. (It has lost it's EPG - see other topic Re new TV)

The reason I want to keep freeSky is mainly for viewing one channel, Clubland, (not available on Freesat) and do not want to lose this if I can help it.

I also use the Sky box Audio out direct to my HiFi so I can listen to absolute 80s without it going through the TV.

I think my best option is a newer Sky HD box, but not sure if these have separate Audio out??? But if a simple cable will connect existing Sky scart to TV hdmi, without the need for a converter box, then this would be great.

So does anyone know if a simple scart to hdmi cable would work for what I want?????????? Ie is it necessary to convert analogue to digital for this to work?????

Also, any info as to newer Sky boxes and their connections re the above requirements gratefully received.........

Thanks.

Converting to HDMI from SCART means that you will lose an awful lot of potential picture quality. I haven't had Sky for years, but in the past I had 3 Sky HD boxes that all had RCA phono connections to run the sound straight to my HiFi.

You can buy a Sky HD box second hand from eBay - there's a lot of different variants so make sure you see photos of the back of the unit before buying.

Scart to component input is probably easier? New TV must have component input surely? Doubt it'll auto switch inputs though.

Am considering this as the tv of choice (tho not purchased yet txgx820b) does have component input, (as does my current Panasonic, which I use for PS2 (Yes, PS2, don't laugh) Lol.

And I really only need the Sky for viewing the one channel and outputting Audio to HiFi.

I am looking at these at the moment and it does seem likely they will all have RCA outputs.

Just wondering about the card working (my old NON HD card in a newer HD box)

Anyone any recommendations on this??????????

Cheers

Just thinking outside the box here but Clubland TV appears to have a YouTube presence (for a partial dance fix) but more importantly this shows what the frequency is that it transmits on:-

I seem to remember that additional channels could be added to satellite boxes that weren't within the normal programme guide.

Also, most new TV's allow for a satellite input together with an aerial input so it may still be viewable if it's not encrypted. They will also have multiple audio out options. Does your amp have an optical input at all?

Seems Sky HD boxes have reduced in price dramatically since the last time I looked........Cheaper than a new small Freesat box.

Not sure if my HiFi has digital optical but I already have the long RCA leads in place for the Sky audio out and this set up is perfect for me.

Home Audio / TV is using Digital Optical.......

Cheers

Just pick at TV up with freesat built in?

Surely  your tv has a scary in? Mine requires I use an included break out cable, but the option is there.

That would mean having to have the tv on, when I only want the output for my HiFi......

My current tv does have scart, but most new ones do not nowadays and as I have lost my EPG I'm looking into new tv...........all explained in original post.

Have purchased a DRX595L for £24 so so long as it arrives and works, should be great for now, (for the epg) and for future too....

Cheers guys.

Well bugger me.............the DRX595arrived, and doesn't have the RCA audio out :@..........I should have double checked.

I did lots of research and was sure the was the one I wanted for the RCA connections.........and the scart adaptor doesn't do what I thought it might ie possibility of using this if necessary if I ended up purchasing the wrong one.

NB the adaptor is actually an rca input / scart output adaptor, but thought this would work other way.

Surely the Sky scart is output???

Any thoughts.

Well ^^^^ £1.99 has made the difference.......I now have digital audio emanating from my HiFi speakers again..........

Alright, add that to the £24 upgraded Sky HD box, but now with any future viewing / new tv purchases , the connections are not a problem anymore.
